Just heard about a innocident with the Weaver Cougar. The bridge snapped right in the middle. The rope bridge was replaced two years prior. The climber fell 30 feet and landed on his feet which in return did back damage. With further diagnosis another separate rope bridge was taken apart only to discover that the ends were tucked in rather than spliced in and held in place with approx. four stitches. Beware!!

I checked out the Wesspur site about the recall and it stated about the all black bridges were recalled. This one was a yellow and black. IT's a different bridge.

So where did you hear about this? Do you have a link to any written information?

I just heard about it, that's when I posted. The innocident happened in around the Hamilton area, which is 45 minutes from Toronto Ontario. After the accident, a person was informed of the accident, he then took it on himself to take a look at his bridge which was black and yellow in colour. He found that the construction of the bridge was inadequate.

The original bridge recall was in August 2010 for black / red bridges on the Cougar saddle. Notices were put on many sites, including AS, TCIA, ISA, TBuzz and in print. Attempts were made to contact all purchasers to replace with the new all black bridge by a different splicer.

If he has the black / yellow bridge, it's probably more an issue of heavy use, lack of inspection and should've been replaced. Inspection is the key to all our equipment. Things do not last for ever, and they do and will wear out. Daily inspection of equipment, especially climbing gear, shall be done and worn parts repaired or replaced. ANSI and common sense dictates that.

Glad to hear the climber survived and is able to talk about it.

INSPECT, REPAIR, REPLACE

Thanks for the post. Hopefully the climber will be able to climb again.
