Running an old 550

I've cut lots of wood with a 500. Probably more than any other. Built like a tank. Here's a close match to the 550.

Does the 550 and 575 have compression release?

Very strange on the 500 is a small back handle, too small to insert your foot. Mine runs great,
but a previous owner tossed the chain brake and the throttle interlock. Only one piston ring.

No compression releases on the Shindaiwas but one pull start up is the norm.

Beautiful 500.

Q: My clutch cover does not cover the muffler (photo), and all other 500 pix I
have seen do. Is my cover from a different model? It does not look modified
and fits perfectly.

I believe you have a clutch cover from an older model 500 on a newer 500.
The muffler for your cover should look as the top pic below. Just a guess as I am no expert.

Thanks, ALDER. My muffler looks like neither of yours. The only covers I have seen are like
in your second photo. Also for the 416.
