I have a Dolmar 143 with great compression. I just stuck a carb kit in it. I can't seem to get decent RPM's IT sounds and cuts like about 3/4 throttle. My stihl 064 will outcut it in 20" oak; in fact, the 143 will stall out easier. I can lean the high jet out until it won't run but it still wavers around 8000 rpms,(by ear) Is there a rev limeting coil or something else that's holding this saw back? On paper it should walk away from my 064 in big wood. Any help would be great. I'd like to make a screamer out of this big saw.

The Sachs-Dolmar 143 is FUEL GOVERNED by the carburetor it will flip from the 4 stroke garble to the 2 stroke sound in the cut but not without any load. Set the high speed approx 1 turn and go cut..

It did clear up under load but still seemed slow and underpowered. The high speed jet is out appx 1 turn. It idles great and revs up fast but it just seems way to slow. Is there a way to gag the governor? Thanks

Get some gasket material and a hole punch, this should make a gasket the correct size. Now remove the governor (slotted brass device which threads
into the side of the Tillotson HS carb) drop the gasket into the hole and reinstall the governor with some Loctite. You have effectively blocked
the governor. Adjust the Hi speed for a distinct 4 stroke.Thats how you do it,
the question now becomes should you.The 143 was a bit of a hand grenade,
some crank failures were seen and the crankcases were not up to handling
the boost from 85cc(133 super) to 95cc Higher peak RPM will likely decrease reliability.

The 143mx is a torque monster not a speed demon.. I would not disable the fuel governor.. The newer PS9010 turns many many more RPM's if you are looking for faster R's

I had seen many a crank or main bearing failures on the older 133's but not as many on the 133 super and not a one on the 143mx. The main reason for bearing failure and the Stihl guys will agree with torque monster's of that age sawers tends to get a wee bit aggressive with the raker's hence the bearing failure's. I did however see head bolt and cylinder failures when using with 36" and longer bars.

Also with the 133 super's and the 143mx Dolmar switched from ball bearings to a roller bearing on the clutch side and a heavier crankcase.
