I bought the 114 that was on ebay and not running, piston is scored but cylinder is good. Part numbers are showing the same for both the 112 and 114 but there is an A/B piston version if I am reading that correctly. The piston in this 114 is a dome with a dish, anyone familiar with this. I'm seeing a piston on ebay that is the same number as the ipl but isn't dished. Long story long I'm not sure if I can use this piston with this cylinder. Is anyone familiar with this? I'm trying to get this rebuilt for a guy who works at the local saw shop whose dad worked for sachs dolmar. The owner of the shop wants to give it to him as a Christmas present.
 
Does anyone know what this crank case fits? I cannot find it in the 122/123/133/143 or 309/343 saw IPL's. It takes the smaller 6202 bearing which is 15x35x11...same as a 122. The cylinder mounting flange is slightly different then a 122 though.

Great thread, I like the idea. My Sachs Dolmar 116 is my favorite saw out of the three I own. I find it easy to work on, good power to weight ratio, very impressive for the size.
I agree and appreciate the description olyeller gave about his views of chainsaws. I’ve had about 34 saws since 1991 when I changed careers to arborist trade. Lights out…back to sleep.be safe y’all!
 
Beautiful saw, it sounds like it is going lean , not pulling enough fuel and that would be very bad for a regular two stroke. I don`t really know what a rotary engine in a saw should sound like but it is running very high RPM`s coming out of the cut. I know you will get it sorted out, thanks for the vid.
 
I picked up my KMS4 today. Short video in you suck thread. It sat under a bench for close to 50 years. One shot of mix in the carb and it fired. Inside of the fuel tank looked like day one brand new. Filled it up and it started and idled pretty good. I'm a happy camper. Will get some still shots tomorrow. Frank bought the saw brand new and said it was too heavy to use much, so he bought a couple Stihl’s, and this one sat. He turns 91 this year.
 
Here’s my entry to the thread. My newly acquired KMS4. Runs real good too! Still have a gremlin in the carb to chase out, but it runs well enough to cut with. Hope you like it.

That’s a pretty one. The one I got today looks about the same. Amazing these things made it this far and look so good. Frank said it was too heavy to use it much, so it sat under the work bench, till today!
 
I have some 3D printed hand guards for the KMS4 saws if anyone is interested. If I remember I'll post a photo when I'm back at the computer.

Thanks Mark, put me down for one. I told my friend that something was broken on the saw, thought it was a clutch cover or something? I looked at it a couple years ago. When we were trying to start it I noticed some black jagged piece sticking up by my knuckles. The rest of the saw is pretty dang straight. Thanks.

I’ve got a 1987 115 that I brought back from the dead and it runs great. Unfortunately I can’t get the brake to work properly. It will engage on its own when I’m trying to cut. I found a reference to a “service bulletin” a while back that apparently addressed this issue but I couldn’t find any further info as to what the fix was.
I’ve tried everything to correct this with no luck. If anyone is aware of the fix for this I’m all ears. I’ve had the brake assembly apart several times trying to fix this and it appears to be in good shape. The brake works and can be engaged or disengaged as normal but it continues to engage when not needed. I’m open to ideas. Here’s a pic of my problem child:
