Milling 10x10 cants for my first try at timber framing.

It will be an enclosure inside my pole barn. An area big enough for working on vehicles and small enough to heat with my old wood stove.

It will have a mezz on the top for storage, and a bunch of insulation.

May even air condition it.

You know them bugs were in Michigan before they got here.

I have heard they are already in New York State.

Good luck to ya Brother.

Yes Sir,

Them bugs are devastating, it would be like some organism got into your body and started eating your veins.

All your extremity's would get no nourishment and would die off.

Quite a gruesome way to go eh?

Not nice to think of surely. My Grandfather and his people always girthed all the trees they wanted to cut for lumber, they did this in the early spring and cut the following winter. They thought it stabilized the wood better by drying it on the stump.

540 gets an upgrade

My PS 540 is one of my favorite saws. I would also take it over either of the pro 50cc class stihl or huskys (we all know which 2).
I have wanted to upgrade it to 3/8" for a while and my parts finally came in. I got my new Oregon power match replaceable tip 16" bar and chain and a 3/8" 7 pin rim.
I used it today on some dead oak 6"-12" and WOW what a combo. It is super fast. I had that trunk cut in about 3 minutes. The hard part was carrying the logs 100 yard out of the woods to the truck:censored:
What an awesome saw.
New parts installed

old .325 setup, lots of life left too.

put to work:clap:

Looks good in the new basement too Joe.

Here's my latest, back together now, well almost. Dolmar 166 / McCulloch SP118. I was pulling it over to see if the rebuilt carburetor would pump gasoline (trying to watch the Tygon fuel line while I pulled) when this beast fired into life without the muffler in place. WOW!

It starts and idles well but I need to find one more "brake spring" for the starter 113 166 081, and a couple of o-rings for the manual oiler.

I have a 34" bar that came with the saw and look forward to trying it out at the Iowa GTG this coming Saturday.

I need one of those little springs that operate the starter pawls

That looks to be the same spring as on my 153. Could not find one, so I made my own.

It only needs a very slight bit of tension to work properly.

The cellar isnt done yet. I cut my bench top and put shelves underneath. Lots more to do!

I have a Sachs Dolmar 153 with Elec ignition which has let out the smoke, Have any Sachs Dolmar owners found a replacement ignition for this particular saw or is there another model which shares the same ignition?
