ready for almost anyting setup

Silky, 1-6 binered loop runners, depending on the tree, Kong ascenders a couple locking, a couple non-locking biners, steelcore flipline and chainsaw lanyard, along with a 346. Camelbak in the Summer.

Occasionally, lighter by a couple biners, and slings, depending on the rigging scenario, but usually I carry enough weight in hardware to make Rocky J. Squirrel puke his nuts up. In the pic, preparing for a zipline day, I am rigged heavier than normal -TM-

Saddle upgrades

Rear view. Replaced the little backpad-to-bosun straps with seat belt webbing. Pretty big improvement. Quick releases for the leg straps an even bigger improvement. Happy to see that some saddles are finally coming stock with them. -TM-

Wow, I climb with the versatile and those little straps drive me nuts. That looks great! Did you sew that yourself? Do you have a machine? I may just have that very thing done to mine.

Performance tuning your saddle

You do that hand-stitching with a sewing awl, the kind used to stitch leather. Takes patience, about 20-30 minutes per side. On my next saddle, I'd like to use even wider material.
The awl can also be used to affix the front quick release buckles. Someone earlier got rid of the flappy excess from the leg adjustment straps to lessen the clutter.... use the awl for a couple tack stitches to keep those tabs from flappin.

With your Versatile there's a little room on each side to squeak in an accessory biner that'll stay there permanently (until you decide otherwise). Previous pic you can see it as the green hotwire, up near the front. Site is identical on the other side (where there's a Petzl Spirit)

I think you're gonna freak out when you see how inexpensive this easy-to-use device is. Hint: triple strand wax thread.
Here's the link for the awl:

The leg straps on my Master ripped one day, so I sewed on new ones. I used one inch flat webbing and sewed it on with my Singer 338 (circa 1965). The machine had only a little struggle getting through the webbing and the leg pads!

I also sewed me a leather "scabbard" for my Felcos. I used the machine for that, but I get out the Speedy Stictcher ( http://www.rei.com/online/store/Pro...000&productId=2141&parent_category_rn=5404695 ) comes out for the THICK stuff.

I think all tree guys and gals should know how to sew.

Nick, I'm proud of you. You are single but actually drive a hybred car, own a sewing machine, and eat tofu, yet JPS says you are an excellent climber. It is nice to know that not all greenies are wienies.

I can't help but wonder though if you will be laughing at some of it over a hamburger in 10 years.

I OD'ed on seafood last night at a casino buffet. Man, it was some good eats!

About two weeks ago I made some changes to my pro versatile saddle. I sewed the tails of any straps down to cut down on clutter. After a week of debateful head banging on wall, I cut my side D's off and put Delta links on both sides. I like it so far. Can attach the lanyard directly to it so that's less clutter. They are heavier than the original D's.:(
