Otto, that is a consumer recall. the problems that i had were on a ms460. i also discovered that just the first cap leaked, the second problem that i had was with the fuel vent, that was what was leaking the most.
I had 2 of those beforwe I went to the factory. Now I know why they were so interested. No problem, they just said replace the tanks. Mine were fixed before they were sold. Some one did not grind the surface on the tank flat
God, I can't remember how many times the guys at Stihl changed their minds about leaky fuel vents, first the sintered brass insert, then one set screw in the line , then 2, then back to 1. whata pain.
Every Stihl I've had has had some problem with the fuel vent. 032 gas cap wouldn't stop leaking, 011 breather line with setscrew broke off, 026 had gas gushing from the vent.
Just a rubber duckbill valve is my choice, although I like the steel ball check vavle/breather hose/sintered brass insert system in my 111.
Lobo,
You are not just a bit biased against husky's are you?
If one brand of product were so far superior to all others they would put all the competition out of business; then things would get real boring.
On tank vents; It seems like there are a lot of bad designs (various brands). Running a hose to the air box with easy access to maintenence is probably the best. Heck, you can't hardly find the tank vent on many of these saws.
After working for a car dealer for 10 years, recalls are a normal thing. At least nobody is trying to hide it.
I have to agree that the hose and threaded insert are the best vent. As 1 Stihl rep said, "if it don't leak , it wont work."
Seems right to me.
Recalls are good in my book. WQhats bad is when there is a problem and the mfg refuses to recall or even admit they have one. This type of thing is very common in the industry (auto) I wcurrently work in.
