This will probably hurt your face. Idiotic I know but couln't find another solution.

Tree hitting the historic Austin Motel. www.austinmotel.com

Nothing to cable to inorder to pull it up. Taking the limb wasn't an option. Roof couldn't be cut any further.

Pulled the limb up and placed 3 pieces of rubber (tire) between building and tree then released the limb.

Ever cut tire with a chainsaw??

Theres GOTTA be a way to work a cable or two in there, SOMEWHERE!

Brian's idea is good, also. I've seen those supporting structures holding limbs before.

The brace is a good idea. So is a cable.

Problem with the brace is that it would block this already narrow walk way connecting front of property with the back.

I informed them that this is a terminal situation and we are prolonging the inevitable removal of the stem. That combined with the severe utility hacking in the past, eventually the whole tree.

This American elm is in Austin, TX which is enough to condemn it...they don't get much bigger here w/out starting decline.

They are tree huggers and cool with the unfortunate prognosis. It was worth it to them to pay $$ to live with this limb a year or 2 longer.

It is a unique situation. other than the stem Mike chose, there is nothing else. The others would be pulling it INTO the structure.

Thanks for the input from all.

LMAO Mike. I like that one. I'll see if they'll go for that. The Jedi mind trick where you just move the building.

The final solution will probably involve something more like this.

I get the feeling this guy could be related to Butch:p

Here's what I meant, it's called a barn hip roof.

I would like to know how much that would cost!

Sheeite! I would take the freaking limb off!

Or, my idea. A tire sling around the most appropriate spot(hollow or not) and rig it in whatever fashion is necessary to replicate a proper cabling job. :)

I would think a roofer could do that for around $1000.
To remove the limb would mean the the rest of the tree would be done, and it would cost about the same in the end. Then once the tree is removed, you would still need to address the fooked up roof anyway.
As for you tire idea,

just a thaught

Could this work. the red dots are blocks, run your cable through them to create a tight loop. then attach another cable to the loop and haul away, kind of like drawing a bow no one weeker limb gets all the presure from the cable and wind would be distributed to all the limbs.

The emphasis is on the 'whatever/proper cabling job' part of that sentence. That will require ingenuity.

And whats so strange about the use of a tire? TreeTx has involved a tire from the get-go. :)

RJS - I only see about 6'-8' from the main trunk (origination of lead) to the point where it contacts the roof. Imagine how much force it will take to bend an 8' log that is 12"-14" diameter. We are talkikng several thousand pounds of force.

More like 5'-6' tops. Yup, several thousand pounds.

The best solution as MM pointed out is to do the hip roof thing. The roof is already damaged. Fix it, right.

Here again is the problem, they are willing to do anything but then change tunes when $$ comes up. This was a cheap temporary fix. Fix may be a bad choice of words. Maybe I should compare it to putting a fresh coat of paint on a house that is falling down.......................
