Thought I'd share a couple pics of my thrown together saw buck. The pic shows a piece of plywood placed for cutting splits that are to long. When removed and full logs are on each rail is 20 inches for even lengths.
had to shave 2 inches off about 70 splits today.

I don't usually measure these days but have in the past. It's a lot less work to measure than cut twice though.

Sawbucks - the unglamorous underdog of the firewood making pastime.

I've got one that I built on a pallet. I nailed some short stakes onto the side of it that fit the stake pockets on my little ATV trailer, so I can put it on the trailer & it stays put. I run around with it & gather up the small stuff (small = what I can lift without getting into hernia territory) in long lengths (8-10'), then drive it to my splitting/stacking area & cut to length right on the trailer with my 360. Takes about 5 minutes to cut it all up, and about 4-5 loads to make a cord.

Have another walking beam trailer, for rough areas, that I do the same sorta thing with - poles for stakes, then couple long lengths down lengthwise, then three shorter pieces cross wise, then the load on lengthwise. Gets the wood off the deck of the trailer so I can cut to length on it too without getting the saw into the trailer.

Huge time saver.

Why would you need to cut off 1-2" ..just your thing or is it for resale purposes ?

I've seen over the years that 99% of the guys here care way more than I do about how sharp and uniform their firewood pile is but is there some performance benefit ?

On this particular load it was from some large rounds that I have a bad habit of cutting to long. My furnace is 22 inches, burns best at 20. These rounds ended up 22 1/4 to 23 so they wood not fit. Also as a scrounger I get a lot of power line wood that is cut in any length. I built the buck for 10 ft pieces and I do like the stacks even, I need them that way as they tend to sit for 5 or 6 years.
