Sounds like a plausible story - but a lot of people still missed the ol' VX when VXL replaced it.

Imo, this all is a moot point after Stihl came out with chisel chain in 3/8" lo-pro (Picco) though.

Yeah, they didn't want to sell the VX chain in the consumer market because of kickback, so it became 91PX (with bumper link). The VXL wasn't (isn't) sold as a consumer chain. There is the 91PXL, which is the VXL with a bumper link (confusing), but the standard consumer assortment is still the 91PX chain. The standard Stihl LP chain will still out-cut all of the others.

Not exactly what I'm known for on here (rather the opposite) - but both is wrong. I simply go with what I like (or not), regardless of brand.
