I had an XR250 that didn't have a rack, but some supports off the rear subframe, and it would carry an 038 with a 28" bar really nicely. Really heavy saw for that kind of duty. I was considering a Stihl 170 for that kind of deal, but ended up getting the Dolmar that'll probably end up filling that niche instead. Although now I have a WR450 that doesn't have any sort of support on the rear fender for me to tie my saw onto. Pro Moto Billet has some pretty nice racks that bolt onto your subframe, and they even have saw brackets that bolt onto their racks. Personally, given my bike, I wouldn't want too much weight cantilevered out off of my subframe that far. It depends on what kind of bike you have though. Also, you need to consider the nature of the logs you'll be bucking. If the trails you'll be working go through old growth, an 044 might be the best saw. If it's mostly small diameter and fairly protected from wind, you can get away with a smaller saw. It also depends if you are clearing for the sake of clearing, or if you're just taking the saw along to get further in early season rides. Either way, consider your use, then look for a reputable saw in the size range you'd need. Do searches for each particular model you consider, then ask more questions if they come up.
