If your dealer has a 5105, it will run with a 550xp or 261 by their info. I have a ea5001 makita that i got on ebay for a super good deal. Took converter out and retuned, runs great. 590 echo is hard to beat for the money, but they aren't worth much for resale because new price is so low. The makita dcs5121 is the same as 5105 but, aluminum cases, different porting and spur drive. I don't think any that i mentioned are bad saws.

555 is right under a 562 in specs. Good deal and very little problems according to dealer I go to.

Leaning towards the CS490. Probably gonna go pick one up next week. Any tips on the muffler mod and re-tune?

Seems popular, but it's the last one I would choose from those mentioned here.

Do yourself a favor and at least go hold some of the saws. You will likely find some feel better than others. Swing them around like you are limbing a tree. Echo may be the one you prefer.

The second reason you may prefer one of the others is because it may not have enough umph for the work. You didn't mention the size of the wood you will cutting or whether it's trees or logs...

Look on eBay, I see them regularly on there for 249-279 free shipping. They are a good saw for the money, but not nearly as strong and fast as a 550xp.
