I am able to start my Craftsman saw (38cc)--I think this is a McCulloch saw--but I have to keep priming it to keep it running. Any ideas or things I should try?

We are going to need more info on the saw..

A name, a Number, Color....something to go on.

Sounds like fuel line, or bad carb.

its a Craftsman 38cc (model 41558), but really a McCulloch 600038-64

I prime it a few times, choke and crank it over 2 or 3 times and it is running. Then if I don't keep priming it, it will stop. After it stalls, if I prime once, one pull and it is running. If I keep priming it will come up to speed. The gas line is feeding great. It seems like a carb to me.

Not sure what saw it is..but Im guessing it is based off the Mac 3200 series..

The primer is just there to supply fuel to the carb, not really build pressure to inject fuel into the intake throat. If you Choke it while it is running, does it stay running?

Are you sure the carb is tight to the intake?

If it has a rubber boot that holds the carb to the engine, this boot can crack and leak over time, and cause a huge air leak. This means the engine cant draft fuel into the intake, even when choked.

Sounds like your carb needs to be cleaned and have the diaphragms replaced so the fuel will be able to flow properly.
