I met a ASer in Pittsburg.. pretty sharp 19 year old kid, doing lawn, trees, going to school for forrestry or something....
Anyhow I asked him if he posted on the commercial forum.... He said with true sincerity... "no I AM scared of Rocky"

I personally have grown to enjoy Rocky's online "personality" so I share this as a report only... no judgment... no blame.... Just what I heard...

Scared of everyone

I understand what he was/is going though. I have been scared of everyone here, and I have posted some s**tty posts trying to front and seem aloof. I want to formally apoligize. After seeing a new view of everyone and their posts, I welcome ALL you have to tell me. I am eager to learn and hope that you will all share with me.

Well I'm not affraid on any of the members on here and I don't believe there is reason to be, but I will say that I have held back on some questions, even after running a search and not being able to find what I was wanting to know about. But finally just mustard up the stones and put the questions forward, the part that I figured was going to happen didn't, that being that someone would say "Just buy the book and read about it" my questions where on falling technique's, nothing fancy just standard stuff but to make sure if I did have to use it that I would know the proper way of doing it (and after differant points of view where argued there where some great answers) by the way thanks to all who gave advise. But the more I read on here now the more I figure I will buy the book just to have on hand. I don't put as much time on here as some and I have noticed that when newbie's like me ask a question and it has already been addressed that they can get hammered on fairly hard for not doing a search, but sometimes a guy just likes to ask the question so he can bring up other points that where not covered in the original even if he did look it up. Just my .02 being a newbie and all. I know I kind of side tracked you thread there but it is something that I have noticed and figured this was the closest I would see on a thread to it. I'm thick skinned and can take it, but some aren't and I would hate to think that someone didn't ask a question and tried something just to have it go bad on them.

gee ive been trying to get a bite out of him for months,i guess in our case we agree on most things so i cant:rolleyes:

rocky don't scare me ....it's netree

After that "gypopinon" thread he's going to chain me to a forward leaner and barber chair it just to get even:rolleyes:Sorry Erik I give. uncle.:D

What is there to be afraid of? He is outspoken, opinionated, knowlegable, and will express an opinion and stick to it like velco. In my experience this is very typical of anyone who has been in this biz for any length of time. If someone wants to get into this type of work they need to be prepared to deal with this type of personality because that is what runs this industry and made it what it is today. I grew up in this biz and have heard all the jibs & jabs from hi and low and just keep doing my thing as best I can and try to improve by asking questions and filtering out the nonsense and move on. I would suggest to anyone who is afraid to ask questions that your success in this type of work will be very limited.
So ask away and start thickening up that outer dermis layer, you will need it.;)

Some of us can be blunt and inconsiderate at times (myself included), but it's virtual, not real, so how much can it hurt? And remember if someone's being real nasty it may be directed AT you, but it's not ABOUT you.

Mean nastiness always comes from personal problems.

Dive in, you can't drown because it's not real water.

leweee,

Don't be scared of netree. Erik's just an opinionated teddy bear. I've worked with him many times and he's real nice and always makes sure that I'm learning and not just filling the chip box or whatever. Maybe he's scared of me.:D ;)

Besides, a little criticism or ridicule never killed anyone. Rocky was one of the most helpful people here, when I used to talk to him in the chat room. Gave me lots of frank, useful info without judging. I never felt scared.

I think we all can use some sort of therapy.:D

Erik is opinionated? I hadn't noticed that. I just thought he's rational and thus almost always right. He probably won't even blame Newfie much for insulting him.(What can you expect from a Newfie after all?):p

I don’t get the point. Arborists are supposed to be strong men not whimsy butt kissers or sensitive gurlies. Some men are leaders and most are followers. Brian is a cool dude so leave the man alone and finish knitting that sweater for your girlfriend.

No one needs to be afraid of anyone, especially the arbrosharks. The odd pissin' match can be entertaining and it gives us a chance to brush up on our conflict resolution skills.
The biggest trouble makers would probably be: RJS, D Babcock, Glens, Mike Maas and Dennis Cahoon, but not neccesarily in that order. Of coarse I never engage in any disruption since I am purer than the driven snow.

Hi Stumper, that reminds me, there is lots of bear chit in the woods where I am working, but I didn't see no bears yet. Will take pictures for those interested in scatology though. MB wants me to pick the seeds out and send them to him for germination, so I said I would. Anyway it smells like bear chit. Good ting I didn't step in it.
