I was driving around the other day and decided to take a trip to one of the local campgrounds. I drove through the campground and saw that it had been logged over the winter. Huge piles of slash are everywhere. 
There are also logs, bucked to length, sitting next to the road. The loggers are long gone. The logs are bucked to length. There is pine, oak and mesquite just sitting there.
So I call the forest service to get a permit to pick up the firewood. The gal down at the local office tells me I can not pick up the wood. The forest service is going to burn it.
I must have looked pretty confused, because she offered me the bosses phone number.
I called her and she said that I was not allowed to gather the wood. I pointed out that the camphost was gathering the wood and selling it for profit. I told her that I wanted to gather it for the winter and would be picking it up, as it was already cut to length. She told me NO!!! There will be no one gathering wood in the area for the rest of the year. :censored:
So, I asked for her boss. He called me today. He told me that the forest service did not want the campgrounds disturbed. He offered to let me go behind the campground to gather as much wood as I want. He even offered to open the gate for me. SCORE!!! It's cut into log length and piled up. I don't even have to cut it. I will try to act like an adult and not do my happy dance.
I will post pics when I get some.
