What bar to convert an 026 to 3/8LP?

I'd like to get a 16" 3/8LP bar for my 026. Where can I find such a bar?

Stihl made them in 3003 mount but very hard to find.

GB currently makes them for people milling logs. Not sure who imports them in USA? Left Coast Supplies did before they went out of business.



There is a vendor in England that caters to CS milling who has them. Shipping?

I wonder how hard it would be to convert a smaller saw's bar to run on the 026? Bar mount widened? Oiler hole drilled in another location?

The oil output from the powerhead is farther from the bar slot on the large mount Husky and 3003 (intermediate mount?) Stihl. Might need cut the tail down some so the bar is wide enough at the oil input spot besides widening the slot. Probably not really hard but the chain loop might be something to special order or make yourself. I would certainly avoid the 7 tooth nose bars for such a mod.

Before stihl sold the right bars. I just made one. Being I was testing 3/8LP 45DL chains I went with 12"

Can make bars fit about anything you want even with tools already in your shop. Drill and grind and file all that was needed to fit a 3005 to 3003.

I've wondered if there some reason that a standard 3/8" bar can't be fitted with a 3/8" LP chain? The engagement of the tip roller might be less with the LP chain, but that wouldn't be a deal breaker from my perspective.

The chassis of the the chain is different although the pitch is the same. It will mismatch the drivers and wear/mar both the sprocket and the drivers. More so on a drive sprocket.

Here is two drive sprockets both 7 pin, left is 3/8 Stihl, right is 3/8 picco/lo pro made by Danzco (new name now?). Note difference in diameters.






I had a lot of those made up for my 066 to run 63PMX chain milling. Back then there was only spur drums in 3/8 picco from Stihl available.

They stock them now, not special order. Other places sell the Oregon medium 3/8 lo pro/picco rims now too.



Back to bars. Besides 3003 mount picco bars, GB makes adapters to run Husky bars on 3003 mount Stihls.

I have been using an ms250 with full chisel 3/8 LP and I believe it cuts faster than the 325 on my 026. I haven't side by side tested it YET, but by memory it seems faster. I also like less teeth.

Could try to see if local Stihl dealer has old tuning kit for ms261 # 00000071900
Kit includes 16” bar, 2 chains 63ps 60e and drive rim to convert .325 to 3/8LP drive for $120 range

yes it does cut slightly faster

Before you spend the money switching all that over. Try this new stihl 23RS. It is true 050 all the way to top of DL making it a narrower kerf cutting.
Fast dang 325 chain.

Make sure the raker looks like this for the new stuff.

I'd try that but I have too many good 16" ES bars and RS chains that are 0.063 ga. That 23RS might make good milling chain reground?
