Piss revver
My 72 is a leaf spring truck too .
Even on the late model 14 bolt, the spring pads were in the wrong spots. The frames are a little wider on the newer trucks, so I had to move the pad location inboards a bit. This truck is a hodge-podge of different parts anyway, so originality is of zero concern.
While I was at it, I did a shackle flip and got rid of the horrible 6" lift blocks the previous owner had. Even the little 350 was causing all sorts of axle wrap. Another negative consequence of the lift blocks, is it allowed springs to flex more than they should. The spring packs were actually impacting the side of the frame at full articulation, eventually putting cracks on both sides...hence the plates on the side of the frame.
