Used charcoal and wood to cook 350lbs off beef today. Community BBQ that's been going on for 55 years. I've been on the pit crew for about 10 years. I have apple wood in buckets in my garage that's 4 years old and I still use it to smoke. We also use maple and black cherry. Fed over 500 today.

Yeah, I've seen some good deals on them, but I didn't realize that I may have been able to use them on my tractor as you did. The question is will you be selling them lol.
Surprised it's lighter, do you think it just feels lighter because of the weight of the hoses balancing it out.

I had to unload it into the back of my little Honda odyssey at the yard, good thing my truck has a lift gate on it :). I barely got the hatch to close, the boy helped me get it out at the house. I fixed it as soon as it hit the ground in the barn, couldn't believe that's all it was.
I think the much shorter length of the stick saw versus the long pole saw makes a big difference. I don't feel it pulling on my back. The hoses might help with that too. If I need to get higher up I'll put my forks on the tractor with an IBC tote as a bucket and have my daughter drive me around and lift me up. I installed front remotes on my tractor. I have two hoses running to one of my rear remotes. It was around 1/4 the cost to do it this way versus putting in a joystick control.

Went back out for another session. Got another bucket load split, and cut enough for another bucket similar to this one tomorrow. I'll probably drop another small dead standing locust and dice that up to fill the bucket a bit fuller and so I can grind the stump when I rent the stump grinder.
I would have finished splitting what I have bucked up, but a buddy stopped over and we shot the grade on the pond. The back wall(south side) was right on the money, 1/4 off where he tried it at, he couldn't believe it, I couldn't either . It actually looked a good bit lower, but the laser wasn't lying, we reset it twice and got the exact same results (it's not a cheap unit). The low side of the dam needs another 28" if I want to bring it up to the south sides height(I do), that's gonna take quit a bit more dirt. But I need to clean the sides up and theres quite a bit of dirt just right there, then I will dig a bit more off the shallow end near the south wall. Before I do that I need to remove the topsoil.
Found out the deep part is at 13.6' currently, and I plan on removing quite a bit more yet.

I have two quite big white oaks that are dieing/dead and I want to cut them down and firewood them, there's going to be several cords of wood in them. Anyway, there were trees growing into the limbs of the oaks that would get all busted up when the oaks go down, so I decided to just take them out first to get them out of the way,

SO, my buddy and me, cut/skidded them out with my skidding winch, and cut them to length, in my wagon,

I even pulled one of the limbs down/out of one of the oaks, and cut that into the wagon too,

and we kept at it until we had a decent load,

I even managed to get a decent saw log out of the deal,

Nothing huge in this load, but it's still a nice load of firewood.

Weather guesser mentioned yesterday that it would be hazy here from more Canadian smoke.:buttkick::laugh:

Managed to get three loads in the woodshed, the girls helped me today.

Then I got another one by myself, couldn't find my phone, then after looking around a bit I found it where my hand is :surprised3:. Crisis averted :).

Even got a few loads of brush cleared and another small tree plucked up, then I dug up a nice rock that will be used for a retaining wall or it will make a nice seat somewhere(no pics of the rock, but it did happen ;)). There's still 3 more buckets of brush and debris to pick up, a few branches to cut off trees(firewood sized), and one tree that was broke off and one close to it that's dead standing that I'll be taking down too.
Sure wish it wasn't so dry, would be nice to have a big fire today, the brush and root balls are piling up.

We have the same splitter. Added a little log shelf on the side of mine and love it.IMG_20221004_203404400.jpg

For smoking, yea, but what about bbq? I've never used anything but bone dry wood for bbq.
I guess any wood other than pine and softwoods would be good for BBQ . Smoking is best with slightly green wood in my experience. To build the bed of coal I use dry oak and ash then the apple ,cherry or hickory

Thats one of the last iterations they produced.
Mine starts great, but doesn't seem to idle up properly. It also stalls when you get to the end of the stroke or under heavy load even if you hold the governor so the rpm come up higher. Not sure what's wrong with it, but the machine doesn't have many hrs on it. The log holder on mine I robbed off one I sold a couple yrs ago, I've had at least 20 of these machines.

oh man.

so sorry to hear. glad you got to be with her before she passed as I bet she was waiting for you.

I lost the best dog I ever had on December 31st. 2 days before my birthday. Still cant talk about her around the house. really gets us all going. you know when a dog is "the dog" , a friend like no other. 14 years with her.
