It's interesting how many different ways guys (and gals) butcher their deer. Me, I stopped taking the skeleton apart years ago. I let gravity help me bone the meat out while it's hanging... That way only meat comes into the kitchen for final cutting. The tenderloins always come out first and then the back strap is removed as you describe. After that I use a chain fall or come along so I can raise and lower the carcass for easy removal of the rest of the meat. Once all the meat is off the skeleton I use a hatchet to cut the spine at the end of the rib cage and then fold up the two parts and put them in the trash.
I find it easier to work with each quarter, on a table, in my garage and decide what can be steak and what will be chunks.

Plus, if I put the quarters in coolers on ice, I can proceed at my leisure, no pressure to rush if the weather gets warm. If I need a break, I take one.

Yesterday my tractor's steering felt pretty loose. I knew the outer tie rod ends were worn. Now all four ends are loose. My NX4510HST has 1255 hours on it. Simple grease fittings on these ends would make these last a really long time. I priced two new sets from the dealer online. The price was $658.18 plus tax and shipping. My next stop was Ebay where I found two factory sets for $215 plus tax with free shipping. What a lucky day that was. My woodpile grew some more on the splitter end and shrunk on the rounds end.

It was a really nice day here today, and it looked like I had just enough lumber to build one more firewood box, so that's what I did.

I ended up having one 4' piece of 2x4 left over, so it worked out perfect and I now have plenty of boxes to put firewood in.

What a waste! Yesdterday I decided to get out of the house and take a drive. 23 miles to check out a place with LOTS of dead Black Locust, piles of logs dozed together, etc. I'd been trying to get permission from a woman who I was told owned the place. She wouldn't even talk to me. Got out there today to see a horrible sight. It had been torched, not jusst piles but the whole creek bottom for a quarter mile or more. Ash gray logs laying everywhere. There would have been an easy 30 or more cords.

Decided to visit the owner of the "small locust scrounge" I had been working on until covid happened. Chit chat, mentioned teh burn. "Why didn't you ask me, that's (name)" "He would have been glad to let you have it.

He offered several small BL around the house and much more on down the canyon. 50 mile round trip but at least I get some good firewood and lots of excercise. Went down to day and deleted two small ones for about 1/2 load.

How much does that hold? I assume you're in Michigan so you probably acknowledge the face cord system.

The northern lights were low last night, but very intense green. They are usually green here – I’ve seen the purple, blue, and pink just a few times.

Awesome. White and pale green is what we usually see here. When I was stationed in Ak. we got all the pretty colors and a lot more frequent.

That's happened to me several times on a much smaller scale out at the log yard. Dump truck piles I plan on cutting on are pushed into the fire before I can get to it. But BL on the scale of yours! I feel your pain  . That's a crime! You should turn her into the firewood police and have her arrested.
