Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

Funny, I was just looking at another forum earlier tonight, particularly admiring this shop (again):

Lots of cool shops with all the latest high dollar doodads and double whiz bang, triple throw down stuff, but NONE with the character of this one. Including the wood floor.

My barns second floor is like that , the one with the Tbird is at my moms much newer . Real 2x10s for flooring all white oak . The joists are trees and the flats are hand hewn . I’ve had my 85 K20 in there but I use it now to store my milled lumber .

We may not scrounge much wood but we sure cook a lot of eggs.

There was a nomad in 58, I had one. However it wasn't like the previous ones with 2 doors. It was basically a 4 door wagon with impala trim. Mine was the 6 cyl.

I believe they called what he had a Yukon??? or Yucon Club? It was NOT a Nomad.

Today's scrounge consisted of the butt log off the snag I fell yesterday as well as some smaller rounds off a couple windfalls. Its really nice wood. some sections of the bigger one has some punk, but not too bad over all. For the most part 2/3 of it, was sound and dry as a bone. I'll get 2 cord out of it. If there was no punk. I'd get an easy three cord out of this one snag.

I had heard of them previously... Back in the early '70s I bought Ice Crampons made by them. I still have them in a box with my Jon_E Handwarmers! I'd also seen some of their tools at various exhibits in the Hudson Valley.

I used the crampons a number of times in the Catskills on winter hikes and on over night backpacking deer hunts. Over the years I acquired various other options... things like IceBug boots that have car like carbide studs in the soles. They suffice for what I do... I'm not climbing frozen water falls or other such nonsense at this point in my life. I've worn the IceBug boots while riding my Schwalbe Ice Spiker tire equipped bicycle on ponds during ice fishing derbies.

P.S. I just found a pair on E-Bay... I'd not buy from that guy after insulting me with the line "They are a great addition to any antique collection or could be used." I bought them new! LOL
