@snobdds that’s hunting there, the farm…
Well we sit in blinds or stands and just wait for the deer to walk out at dawn or dusk
Get steady and take your shot
One time cutting wood near a tree stand a woodpecker was banging away on the ladder of the tree stand. Surprised it didn't knock itself out with how it was pecking away at that ladder. Sometimes it fun to just sit and watch stuff like that.Yeah, they're a pretty neat bird to have around and at the same time can be a pain in the ass. Especially when they start banging on your aluminum gutters.
You guys hunt funny back east.
I'd take well cooked(not well done) venison over beef any day. I know who's handled it from the day it was killed. Now if I could go pick a steer from the pasture that'd be different. My mom forbid any wild game in the house and we had to donate all wildgame to the salvation army.
I just never developed a taste for wild game.
Now I let the neighbor run cattle on the meadows to keep the grass in good shape. I just go out and pick the cow I want every year.
However, we do some waterfowl hunting on the lake...I will shoot a geese or two each year.

Try sitting all day in a stand in 20° weather with a 20 mph wind blowing in your face. That'll test your ability to handle suffering. We don't use stands or blinds out here.
You could lose your gun/bow, your truck and the animal if you did that here in WI. You need to be 50 feet off the centerline of the right of way.She took both of these standing in the back of the old truck while I drove. The wyoming way...
Nice animals!
Hunting camps here in WI are a result of the short 9 day rifle season. People had their 40 or 80 and went up for the whole season. The other thing that just baffles me is this notion of "hunting camps". We don't do camps out here. My dad and I built a cabin about 10 years ago in the middle of national forest on some land we own. My dad likes to hunt in the forest so we go every year. It's just him and I and the dogs. We don't have a bunch of people come up. I wouldn't know what to do if a bunch of people wanted to come up, but everyone just does their own thing here. There is enough national forest where everyone has enough space for their own camps. It's just totally different out here...

If we weren’t the same age, I’d ask you to adopt meWe don't use stands or blinds out here.
I use to drive a 1988 Toyota 4x4 at the ranch and just hop out when I saw something. The last time we took an animal off the ranch was about 15 years ago when the old lady was bugging me to take her hunting. She took both of these standing in the back of the old truck while I drove. The wyoming way...

TurkeysTurkeys deer or apples ?
Edit : chipper1 beat me to it
If the game is that plentiful, why would you bother to raise cattle??? Sounds like Mother Nature would do it for you! When my dad and I go out hunting, it's too easy. We don't even shoot anything anymore. We just enjoy the wildlife now.
Do you need an accountant, mechanic and 3 day laborers? My family could fill all those roles!Yeah, I have 75,000 acres and that is considered small in Wyoming.

It's a huge departure from when I was young and took my little 4wheeler out with my .22 and shot anything that moved. I joke with my dad that I had my hunting bug out of me by the age of 18.
