Let me start off by saying, I don't own or ever operated a mill. But why do you have yours raised up so high? All I've seen (not many) are just above the ground. Obviously it works for you, just curious.

I like mine much lower too...

I did the string, maybe the weight of the log changed it.

IF the bunk bolts are tight, I doubt that very much.

Having a cabin in the middle of a national forest has been an eye opener for me. The Forest service built out entire road systems (bridges, culverts etc.) in the 50-70's and did it all with a much smaller tax base than today.

Today the Forest service can barely keep up with replacing deteriorating signage. The roads all have trees growing in the ditches causing water to flow over the roads and leaving them in horrible shape.

I don't know where it all went awry. But even with 10x the money, they get less done today.

The forest service is a joke. I know a number of the boots on the ground FS folks and they are mostly really cool people. I know one person who retired from pretty high up in FS management and she is a raving idiot. Stands to reason why they are so terrible if people like her run the place.

They administer the Boundary Waters Canoe Area up here. The permits which are very cheap are incredibly mismanaged. Considering some sell out for the summer in less than 2 minutes once the window opens, they should be charging more and penalizing no-shows which they do none of. Then they keep cutting local jobs due to lack of revenue so they can barely keep up with the needs of the park.

So what book do they use ? My Chevelle alone is valued at 60-70k and that’s a conservative value. Have 10 classic vehicles . Think it would outstrip my income tax up here .

I’m a normal guy too just been collecting before these cars and trucks went nuts in value . Inherited three Studebakers from my dad too. Problem is I don’t like to sell stuff

Had to make a makeshift gangplank to get into the house . The filled trench is now a mud pit . Didn’t have time today to go get a load of pea gravel so this will have to do

The concept of personal property tax is bonkers to me. Don't get me wrong, it's not all sunshine and rainbows here. We are taxed to death in different ways, but the thought of paying tax on something I possess that I've already paid the tax on is wild to me.

My thoughts exactly. I would love to tell them to go F themselves if they try doing that again in my town. I'll put in Chapter 8 housing and see how they like that.

Today I leveled off the canopy inside and laid down some perfect fitting pallets. Now I just need to fill it up with split wood for next Winter. I also had 21 ton of 3/4 stone dropped off at 8: 30 this morning.

I want to get a Pherd CS-X jig. Is 5/32" jig proper for this chain?

Reason I ask, is I was told to use a 7/32" file on my 038 with a 0.063" gauge chain. When I went to buy the jig, the proper jig for that chain was 13/64"

Got some of these wago connectors to try out in the shop. Works been using them for year now, in both AC and DC systems. All the electricians seem to favor them, except a few of the really old guys. They are rated for 20 amps in this series, but I figured I'd use them on the lights since everything is led and doesn't hardly draw anything. Also the lights stand the biggest chance of getting changed around at some point, so this will make it really simple, especially since 90% of the wiring is thhn in conduit. Bug nuts just suck with stranded wire.
I did cut up some of that slab wood this evening, but my main focus has been getting Christmas stuff for the kids (nieces and nephews as well as my kids.) Through the 3d printer. If everything goes as planned, and the rest of my filiment shows up Saturday I should have everything finished up Monday after work. My wife did request one specific puzzle box for her dad, but I'm unsure if I'll get that done in time or not. She just found it last night, 197 parts to print, and I've read from 1 hour to 6 hours to assemble. So it may be a bit late lol.

A stretched string will tell you if the track is straight.

The track doesn't have an even pattern, I think I need to loosen the track and frame bolts and do it over. I just remembered I'm supposed to have a nut under the string, I didn't do it that way before. I couldn't really tell what was going on because of it. This is the first time I put string on the bunks as well. One side they're all in line, the other side the 2 in the middle are low. Even if they're all in line, I still need to make sure they're parallel with the tracks. First I'm gonna get the tracks in line. Then get tracks level side to side, and the first bunk level side to side. Then get the blade parallel with that first bunk, then make the other bunks the same. Then double check everything, in case something moved in the process. I have a traumatic brain injury from Iraq, I have to repeat a lot of thigs a few times because of it. More than that if I have help. I get it eventually. New stuff is the worst, familiar stuff goes easier.

You can use either, and the .063 does not matter, (same tooth as on .050), the tooth size matters (1/4, .325, 3/8 or .404). Stihl uses a different size file on 3/8 than other brands, but you can use either size, just stay consistent.
