Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

It works fine. XS ported with red beard air it pulls 32” in soft wood, I’ve had 4 of them, this is first failure. I use red armor at 40:1. 4 years commercial use is pretty good with any length bar.

I was going to ask the same question Nate, not that you are not correct (about length of use), but there seemed to be just a bit too much carbon in that port.

I use AMSOIL Saber at 40:1 and swear by the stuff. Not sure if it would be worth it, but you may want to give it a try.

Also, I gave you a love for the pictures, but wanted to give a sad face for the saw (but can't do 2).

With all the talk on here about stoves I thot it was time to talk about accessories. No matter what type of stove you like or dislike accessories make or break it. If you dislike a glass-top you can easily modify it with one of these.

the smallest pan shown is somewhere between 80 or 90 years old. the next biggest is somewhere between 90 and 100 years old. The biggest it 60 to 80 years old and the sauce pan is about a year old. No Red Armor or Amsoil Saber were used for seasoning. (Wanted to keep this on topic)
At ease, carry on, smoke em if you got em.

Thanks Mike. Kevin said same thing (Amsoil). Red armor leaves more oil residue on engine internals than any other oil I’ve seen but does seem to leave carbon and junk in exhaust-muffler. Possible carbon caused the marks on piston . I haven’t tried amsoil before because it wasn’t easy to find here at a reasonable price but I’m going to try it.

I buy it by the gallon and pour it into smaller containers to mix with 2 gal of gas at a time. I also have not had any problems with fuel going "stale" after mixing with it, so I'm also happy about that (w/16 running saws, some don't get used for a while).

I don't have any of Kevin's saws, but I did meet him at a GTG and ran several of his saws ... both flavors ... Computer and manual adjust ... and was impressed with all of them. He is a good guy and does nice work.

I've never tried this product, but it looks like I can get it easily. I think I'll give it a shot, too.

I've been using Amsoil Dominator at 45:1. Seems to work well. I certainly don't cut like some of y'all, but no issues so far.

Ah, soft wood. Now I see why you can run a 32" bar on that saw.

I use Obenauf's when I get new boots. I retreat if they get soaked with water. Fair warning...the leather will darken if you use it.

I was hoping to find something that won't darken the leather. I'm trying to wear them for "decent" as the wife would say and she likes the factory color. Thinking back I'm guessing the sno-seal I used on the last pair probably softened them up. Reckon they may turn colors soon.

Nice score on the saws .

I have found that adding some Dawn dish soap really helps on the really dirty denims

Using them. Usually as pry bars, or a drum opener but not exclusively. Some of the models with smaller or thinner jaws will break off like that with "normal" use. This surge model I'm currently carrying looks like it was reinforced in that area to prevent breaking. Just the nature of using them, they break. One of the reasons I keep a few around. Do the same thing with my edc pocket knife.

These are my new Thorogoods that are getting oiled for the first time. I picked these up for $90 at the Thorogood factory outlet. One of the tongues has a tiny hole in it.

In Redwings I'm a 12d and in Thorogoods I'm a 13ee. These are comfortable for me. I tried 12d Thorogoods and I couldn't get them to be comfortable.

I've never tried the Thorogoods, but I've heard good reviews on them. I have worn the Redwings and always found them comfortable. The other brand I wear is Vibram and I like them, too.

Some of you may be interested… today’s Wall St Journal has a photo article that suggests this will happen again this coming weekend… need to check on that. I went a couple years ago . Athens, NY (north of Catskill) on the Hudson River. A friend went yesterday and reported that spectators were taking rides.

I gave up on redwing boots years ago. Had 2 pairs of American made loggers, with composite toe and metatarsal guard. (Work requirement at the time.) Every other year I'd send them back in to get the foot bed and sole redone. Think it was around $90.00. Came back with a new foot bed, sole, polished up and a set of laces. Went back in one day to send one of them off, and the manager said they wouldn't be able to send them back, because that model boot was discontinued. Fought with him a little, then left. Sent redwing an email, and got the same response. They offer that service for current model boots only. I wouldn't have been so up set, but they were over $500.00 for each pair, and the boots were in good shape other wise. Haven't given them a red cent since. Got a set of chippewa boots after that, got about 3 years out of them before the soles needed redone. Local cobbler said $125.00 for new soles. Just wasn't worth it for a ~$200.00 boot. Ended up getting Georgia boot to replace the chippewas.
