This is the demon carb in question!View attachment 1207174
I had a Wiscosin V465D motor with a solenoid. I took it out and plugged the hole in the bowl.I have a briggs with this type of carb. 7BSXS.5012VP 277270 It is in a crapsman mower; intek engine.
the original worked for 10+ years. then the solenoid quit. I bought a new carb, and it worked fine for 3 yrs. It has been in storage since May, Went to start it today, it started right up, then ran out of fuel. The stupid solenoid has the gas shut off. '
1. Is there a way to change this carb to the type with the 5/8 hex on the bottom that holds the bowl on? (Or any other carb without the solenoid)
2. Is there a carb number I can bolt on that does not have the solenoid?
I don't mind buying a new carb from fleabay, but I'd like to eliminate the solenoid problem. The carbs are fine, but the solenoids are crap.
YES, I am capable of installing a manual shutoff inline, AND using it!
If memory serves me right, I cut the plunger off the solenoid on my brother in-law's Craftsman mower and screwed it back into the carb.I have a briggs with this type of carb. 7BSXS.5012VP 277270 It is in a crapsman mower; intek engine.

I seem to remember finding the right size fine thread bolt to screw in in place of the cursed solenoid on a mower a while back.I have a briggs with this type of carb. 7BSXS.5012VP 277270 It is in a crapsman mower; intek engine.

I guess the plow driver that plowed our road moved... He smashed our mailbox regularly and now got yours. I'm surprised he's still alive as that was been going on since the 60s. I did slow him down a bit by putting the mail box close to a utility pole. It's been snowing for a while. Kids had 5 snow days last week and 3 so far this week. I haven't been doing anything firewood related except burning and carrying. Couple roads in the area have been closed for 3 days waiting on the wind to quit so they can dig out. Son was doing the driveway when I got home and he managed to knock a tire off the bead. Took a ratchet strap and some kicking to get it to pop back on, but I think it's good. Still round 3 hours later.
Looks like a Walbro LMT 5-4993 is a bolt on equivalent, without the solenoid, and with a float bowl that can be removed and cleaned. The back screw on the 2 screw mikuni type bowl is impossible to get to without taking the whole carb out. That is a lot of wasted time vs removing one bolt and pulling the bowl to clean.I have a briggs with this type of carb. 7BSXS.5012VP 277270 It is in a crapsman mower; intek engine.
