Decided to make up my own spring pack as the wood hauler was spuating too much for my liking. I had put 2 extra leaves prior but this 1 ton never had helpers on it when I got it. It basically has 2 sets of 1 ton springs now and the helpers will distribute the weight better to the frame. The bed I made is also structural to the frame and is 2 lengths of 3/8" angle welded together. Load shown here is 1.25 cord. It is dry so green wood and better species will add more weight. This is probablt 80% ash with the rest being elm and oak. With this load it squated right ar 2 inches. When I put the helper hangers on I "adjusted" them so they are just barely rubbing when empty. This was the first run with a fuller load and so far am very pleased with it.

I have a briggs with this type of carb. 7BSXS.5012VP 277270 It is in a crapsman mower; intek engine.
the original worked for 10+ years. then the solenoid quit. I bought a new carb, and it worked fine for 3 yrs. It has been in storage since May, Went to start it today, it started right up, then ran out of fuel. The stupid solenoid has the gas shut off. '
1. Is there a way to change this carb to the type with the 5/8 hex on the bottom that holds the bowl on? (Or any other carb without the solenoid)
2. Is there a carb number I can bolt on that does not have the solenoid?

I don't mind buying a new carb from fleabay, but I'd like to eliminate the solenoid problem. The carbs are fine, but the solenoids are crap.
This is the demon carb in question!View attachment 1207174

YES, I am capable of installing a manual shutoff inline, AND using it!

I had a Wiscosin V465D motor with a solenoid. I took it out and plugged the hole in the bowl.

If memory serves me right, I cut the plunger off the solenoid on my brother in-law's Craftsman mower and screwed it back into the carb.

It's been snowing for a while. Kids had 5 snow days last week and 3 so far this week. I haven't been doing anything firewood related except burning and carrying. Couple roads in the area have been closed for 3 days waiting on the wind to quit so they can dig out. Son was doing the driveway when I got home and he managed to knock a tire off the bead. Took a ratchet strap and some kicking to get it to pop back on, but I think it's good. Still round 3 hours later. 😂

I seem to remember finding the right size fine thread bolt to screw in in place of the cursed solenoid on a mower a while back.

I guess the plow driver that plowed our road moved... He smashed our mailbox regularly and now got yours. I'm surprised he's still alive as that was been going on since the 60s. I did slow him down a bit by putting the mail box close to a utility pole. 😉

Lol. I can't blame the plow guy. The post is on one of those spikes that you pound into the ground and then attach the post to. This one is about 8 years old. I gave it a shake last fall and thought, hmmm, it might last the winter. The snow hitting it was enough to do it in. I'll have to scan something to it until spring. Right now the snow is holding it up! 🤣

Looks like a Walbro LMT 5-4993 is a bolt on equivalent, without the solenoid, and with a float bowl that can be removed and cleaned. The back screw on the 2 screw mikuni type bowl is impossible to get to without taking the whole carb out. That is a lot of wasted time vs removing one bolt and pulling the bowl to clean.

I can't find any spec on the original 697203 carb or the Walbro LMT 5-4993. Bore diameter would be nice to know. The price for the whole carb is less than the stupid solenoid alone. $16+ and freight for the solenoid. $16.07 delivered for the walbro.

About 10 years ago my parents had problems with some teenagers driving by and knocking it off with a sledge hammer. My dad put up a security camera, but they never did catch the culprits.

My uncle was able to reweld the mail box to the metal post, thanks to him they didn't have to buy a new mail box. They haven't had any attempts of anything like that since then. They also moved the box further off the road to help prevent it from happening again.

I was just looking at the local paper and saw this headline "Tree worker rescued after falling 100 feet into a ‘natural crevice’ in Rosendale hamlet." I know that area well... the rail trail runs parallel to Hickory Bush Road and has required constant tree work... lots of dead ash! One big tree fell on the access gate to the powerlines that is next to the trail. There are a lot of old cement caves in that area -- Rosendale Cement. Anyhow, this incident is not your usual tree worker injured story!
