Wow sounds like I should get up there with my Bike. My nephew has been holding out on me!
You'd really like the Ashokan Rail Trail. Beautiful scenery... Three trail heads. The Ashokan Reservoir; Slide, Wittenberg and other mountains; the Esopus Creek. I typically ride end to end and return... 22 miles or so.

The WVRT has a lot of interesting things to see and it's unlikely you'd notice them all on one trip! For one you can ride over the bridge where the kid was snatched in the movie A Quiet Place.

Thanks, I printed those maps, will have to try them in the spring.

The new section of our trail is also really nice. Noth of Lake Tonetta it goes through the Great Swamp and then behind Whaley Lake (very nice). Above that there is an old, small cemetery near Greenhaven Prison ... very interesting stuff!

The section from Lake Tonetta to Holmes Rd is 8 miles w/o having to stop for a road crossing, and unlike the lower sections, the tree roots are not breaking the trail up.

Nice, you guys are kind of near Woodstock? The Black Crowes recorded one of their best albums at the Levon Helm studio there.

No shortage of talent in and around Woodstock!

Albert Grossman and his studio in Bearsville (west of Woodstock) saw a lot of big names come through. I was aware of some of them being there. Meatloaf in particular as he trashed a dive bar's cigarette machine one night... a place I'd been a few times.😉 Skip, a friend in those days, witnessed it happen.

Todd Rundgren
The Band
R.E.M.
Dave Matthews Band
Phish
Patti Smith
Steely Dan
The Pretenders
The Isley Brothers
The Rolling Stones
Natalie Merchant
Joe Jackson
Meatloaf

These folks lived in or nearby Woodstock at one time or another: Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Janis Joplin, Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Paul Butterfield, Jimi Hendrix, Natalie Merchant,
Marshall Crenshaw, Robbie Dupree, and David Bowie (with his wife Iman). Henry Paul (Outlaws and Henry Paul Band) grew up in Hurley... I road my bicycle by his family's home regularly and my youngest brother was friends with his sister.

Roger McGuinn will be dropping by the area regularly when he's in the NE doing gigs... his sister in law is my aunt, the one who just moved up near me after her house in FL was destroyed by the hurricanes. My aunt has socialized, traveled and gone on tour with Roger and his wife for 40+ years. I still chuckle to think my parents were hanging around with him when in FL... MY PARENTS hanging out with one of the guys the Momas and Popas immortalized in Creeque Alley with the lyrics "McGuinn and McGuire couldn't get no higher But that's what they were aimin' at." 🤣
This clip was filmed while he was on the same tour that had him in Poughkeepsie doing WPDH's 25th anniversary show in 1991 at The Chance. He played in Woodstock the next year (or was it two?).

Don’t think anyone has a better story on dealing with them than Uncle Mustang

When they took out his mailbox, they got stuck in the snow and he went out and “handled them” 🤣

Would like to hear the full story @MustangMike

Waste oil burner leaking?
Bummer whatever it is.
Yep, the pump is SUPPOSED to trip when the boiler does……

Can’t wait to hand the cleanup bill to our HVAC provider

Not the stuff I wanna deal with on a Friday I’m supposed to leave early to head to camp on….

You could be sitting in a dock twiddling your fingers while waiting to get loaded for over 1.5hrs. Was gonna say they haven't touched the trailer yet, but I just felt the dockplate set down. Longer I sit here the worse the traffic getting out, as I'm on the west.side of chitcago.
At least it's a nice view .

On the bright side your day probably will only get better!

Sucks when stuff like this happens but life goes on.

I bet if you shoot that .405 this weekend you'll have a smile on your face!

Alrighty

So mailbox bandits…..

I'll give more details when I get more time ... there are a lot of "interconnected" info items. It was not the first time they ran my mailbox down, but this time their car got stuck in the snowbank, and I heard the crash.

Uncle Mike, here is the Ashokan

Kids and wife enjoy itView attachment 1238394View attachment 1238393
That’s one of the trails at the Ashokan but not the ART. The ART has three trailheads along Rte 28. Some of the trail is on top od dykes, some on a berm and some through the woods on the former railroad corridor. It has an ADA compliant surface so it’s okay for child bikes, wheel chairs, etc.

Some photos I took while the trail was under construction.

If you google “Ashokan rail trail” there are a LOT of photos.

Tee shirt my son designed based on my concept when we were lobbying to develop the trail.
