She doesn't mind it so far lol. My son sat and watched it run fir the better part of an hour tonight. He thought it was great. I may have to get a few other model engines for him now.
Haven't forgotten my anniversary.. yet. It's in August. Plenty of time to forget till then lol.

Those "whiner" trans belong on lawn mowers! I already have a lawn mower, so I prefer, and got the gear drive trans. lol

I already have a small Kubota that I bought new in the 80's, and this one is an updated version of it, so I'll probably leave the old one on my PTO generator and use the new one for tilling, snow plowing and small jobs like that.

Good evening, it's been a few years since I've been on here. I'll save everyone a sob story but the last few years have been trying to say the least. All that aside, I thought I could get back to posting pictures of scrounging firewood. Just put a hydraulic top link on a few months ago and today I figured out I now have a tow truck for logs . Don't even have to get off most of the time as the tongs usually fall around the log.View attachment 1239902

Good job. A hydraulic top link is one of the best additions that I ever added to my tractor.

Yesterday I took out my two latest saws. The rebuilt 350 was running great until it stalled and wouldn't start. Other than seeing that it has spark and no gas I didn't dig into it yet. I will today. I also took out my $50 455 Rancher. The seller told me it needed a carb rebuild. It had a dead spot when it came off idle. Made a few cuts with it and it was running good. Then it died. It has spark but no fuel. I tore this one down yesterday before dinner. What a PITA these are compared to the 200 or 300 series saws. Pumping the primer bulb did nothing. The hose from the bulb to the tank was cracked. I replaced all the fuel lines and checked the fuel filter. I pulled the carb apart. There was no gas in it. All the orifices are open. Then dinner came. This morning it is back to the garage to figure out why both of them do not run. Grrrr, it is always something that messes up my day.

Different strokes for different folks...

Even though I have a few whiner trans tractors, I pretty much prefer gear drive on everything except my dozer and lawn mower. lol

Gears drive trans are much quieter, take less HP and use less fuel, and a BIG plus is that they are drastically less costly to own when it's time to do maintenance.

Cost less to buy too!

I also prefer a hydro after seriously wiping out my left knee using a Ford 8N
before I was thirty. Add to that snowploing driveways with a standard shift during that same time period. I have owned 2 hydro tractors since the early 2000's. I'll never go back to a standard tractor.

I much prefer stick shift, but when I have to replace this Mustang with either a GT or Dark Horse, it will be tough to not go with the 10 speed auto that is about 1/2 second quicker in the 1/4 mile than the stick and gets better mileage!

Hopefully, my current ride continues to give me trouble free performance!

I got my little century 100 welder working with shielding gas finally. I bought it used, maybe 15 years ago as a flux core 120V "portable". welder. Maybe 5 years ago, the FCAW welds got crappy. I had to replace some diodes. It has 2 stacks of 6 little flat "pill" diodes. I was told they used to be used in the first generation GM Delco alternators too. (1960s). I knew it had a gas valve but between the cost of tank, regulator, flowmeter and hose, I never made the conversion. Last year I needed to do some body work and bought all the stuff. It did not go well, and I got ugly welds, but they stuck, and the warts could be ground off, and welds redone until I was happy enough for out of sight repairs. I thought some of the diodes had gone bad again. THis time in going into the guts, I found the hose from the gas valve was off the feed end of the line to the gun. So, I put that on and tried it.

Still lots of ugly welds trying to find a heat/speed combination that worked. It only has 4 settings, labelled 1,2,3, and 4; with speed labelled 1-10. I tried to find starting points online but everyting said "refer to the manual". I have no manual and none appear to be online. This is probably 40 years old, so the factory ahd dealer response is "Buy a new one." But I did find that with 3 and speed of 6 I could get a nice bead with .030 wire. I need to do some welding in the trunk (out of sight) of one of my cars, so I hope I can make some half fast welds when the rime comes. (say the words half and fast together real fast)

If anyone has any experience with this machine in mig/GMAW form, I'd appreciate any words

Almost all my mig welding at home is by using gas. My welder is a Lincoln 175 Plus with unlimited adjustments from 0 - 10. On sheet metal I would set mine for about 3 - 4 on the power and 4 - 5 on the feed. On my previous Lincoln 100 amp welder I think my settings were around 3 and 4. I always run 15psi on the gas flow gauge regardless of what thickness metal that I am welding. I cannot for the life remember but I think when I switched to gas I had to swap the power wires inside the side door where the spool is.

Update on my saws. The 350 started on the first pull this afternoon. I didn't touch anything other than to pull off the gas line from the tank to make sure gas would flow out when I tipped the saw over. I'll see how it runs the next time that I go out cutting trees.

I believe the 455 Rancher has a bad float pump diaphram. When pushing the purge bulb fast all that comes up the fuel line is air. If I push it slow and release it slow the line has a few bubbles of air and lots of gas. After doing that the saw started right up. Once running at fast idle and above the saw will stay running. I can see gas in the purge bulb. At an idle the purge bulb empties out and the saw stalls. I pinched off the fuel line with a set of surgical locking clamps. When I use the purge bulb I can hear air sucking from the carb somewhere. I ordered a China carb for it.

I don’t know if I had mentioned, but my boys and I had started a snowplowing business last year. Of course, last year was the most mild winter we had ever had so not a lot of money was made except for the seasonal contracts.

We haven’t had a lot of snow this year, but it’s a lot more like normal and as long as nothing breaks (knock on wood) there’s a decent amount of money to be made every time it snows 3+ inches

I got stuck on the side of the road the other day and used the ax that @Multifaceted had redone for me several years back to cut down a small tree so I could back further into the woods and get a running start. I haven’t seen him around here lately. Hope he’s doing well.

I’ve been on a low-carb diet for the last few weeks and I’ve lost a few pounds but feel a lot better after not eating junk food all the time. Last night, I cooked up, jalapeño poppers and bacon wrapped pork chops plus beets and a lettuce salad. That sure hit the spot.
