My friend's son likes the Asin 440 Big Bore I built for him. It is modestly ported and runs fairly well. Since I convinced him to run it on Amsoil Saber at 40:1, he has not had any issues. He previously burned up 2 of them running them on Stihl oil at 50:1.

Looks like he found some nice solid Ash.

I've got the parts to build 3 more of these, but I may use some OEM 046 or 460 cylinders, OEM pistons (which are lighter) and OEM .070 jet carbs.

The two saws that failed did so at the rod bearing. I have replacement cranks (one claims to be OEM quality), OEM 460 pistons (which are lighter than the AM pistons), OEM cylinders (044, 440, 046, 460) and 2 brand new Walbro .070 jet carbs. I also have another cylinder or two like I used on this one. They came with decent porting, as the prototype for them was secretly done by a porter whose name many of you would know (it was not Randy). (He does not want his name disclosed, HL Supply used to sell them, cheap). I did not need to do much more to them to clean them up and a little more port work to make them run pretty good.

I brought 2 MS 660s back to life last year, I may work on these this year. So many projects, so little time!

Just a heads up for dewalt tool owners. Lowes is having a buy certain bare dewalt tools get a fee 6 or 8 amp hour battery with it. I was going to get one of those oscillating cutters, something I've been meaning to get for a while. Guy at lowes said it was on promotional sale, but they didn't have the batteries in stock, so I just ordered it online and chose ship to home.(free shipping.)
Which is a great deal, since the battery is $199.99 by itself. Should have it wednesday or Thursday. Screenshot_20250209_134252_Gmail.jpg

I purchased several of the AM 20V 6 amp hour batteries for the DeWalt tools. They were very inexpensive.

I ordered 4 and got 8! Have had them for several months, and used them a lot up at the cabin and they have been just fine.

My brother purchased some and was not so lucky.
I've been hesitant to buy aftermarket batteries. Seen a lot of bad/mixed reviews over the years of them. It's good to hear someone has had a good experience with them. Since I've been slowly adding to my collection I've found the need for the larger batteries has become a must.

Sad day, my good friend and firewood cutting partner died in an avalanche yesterday. I’ve shared our adventures/ pictures on here in the past. Sure going to miss him!
Sorry to hear this Nate. I understand well how this stings as I've lost almost all my good buddies... We will keep the good memories of those folks.

In happier news, took the fixed 4 off the 99 and put a 3-9 on it

Put a 4-16 on my .300win

Gonna have my hands full sighting in a bunch of rifles this year for next season (Fun problem to have)View attachment 1240979
I always liked the look of aperture sights on the 99s... It's a nostalgia thing! I've got a few guns that wear them. One is an 80+ year old Mossberg target rifle that will consistently put 5 shots in one hole, in the 10 ring, at 50 feet while shooting prone. My father got the gun when he was about aged 9 or 10, When he passed at 90 last summer it became mine. I was probably about 10 the first time I shot it. The gun still wears the original leather military sling. In my wisdom, even as a kid, I've kept the leather conditioned so it is still in pretty good condition.
