Morning chaps,

Since I have been on this sealer mission recently, during my research I have seen so many posts about sealers that once open, over time, just harden and become unusable and so I wanted to pass on a permanent solution where this will never happen again.

I have been doing this fix I learn’t from Donyboy73 on YouTube for over a year and the contents of the tube (I have now pretty much finished the tube) is as good as new every time.

Warm regards, Tom

I can't get the link to work on my phone. What is the fix for the sealer?

Wish I had known this 40 years ago.

A dab of Vaseline in the cap. When threaded on, a little will squeeze out into the threads
@ammoaddict Just remember to squeeze a little out of the tube and dispose of it to remove the vasaline beforehand. I have done this about 10 times during the life of the tube of Dirko I own and never had any problems associated to the Vasoline .

Ok so how is this applied to caulk gun tubes of silicone? With a wire nut and vaseline?

I discovered a plain wire nut does not work...my tube of silicone dried up into the tip worse than if I used nothing.

I find the wire nut does not fit snugly enough, at least for my application.
Been using vaseline for many years with the tubes that come with a slip fit cap when new, keeping that tip around is the biggest challenge for me as I carry the caulking gun around the buildings and from house to house but if the cover tip ,stays on then the caulk will stay uncured or soft.

I use 3M Marine Adhesive Sealer and Gorilla Glue (another polyurethane-based product) and they're terrible about hardening in the bottle or tube (water or water vapor hardens them). I've found that if I seal up the opened bottle or tube in a Ziploc bag and then put it into the freezer, it lasts for months if not years, even opened.

You just have to remember to take it out of the freezer and allow it to warm up FIRST before you unseal the ziploc bag, because if you do it while the glue is cold, it will attract condensation which will make everything kick off even faster...

For caulk and stuff like that, I just jam a roofing nail into the spout.

The red midget condoms for caulking tubes work well.
Search "little red cap"

I gave some to a newly married friend, it brought some laughs.

I've never tried them on metal tubes like RTV. Wonder if grease would work instead of vaseline?
Everyone has grease handy in a shop. If I saw a tub of vaseline, I'd start to worry!

You can also store super glue and super glue gel in a refrigerator and it will last forever after being opened.
I also store some gasket compounds in the fridge such as permatex copper kote and it will last forever. Smear little vaseline on the can's threads for easier removal of the cap.

PVC pipe glue also lasts many years stored in the fridge.
