Im the same way. Just got a goatee in summer. Keeps the wife happy. She hates the beard.
Once fall hits i grow the beard for hunting and the cold season.

Wife hates when I have a beard. It's splotchy grey and brown so I'll admit it's not pretty. I usually grow it starting mid October and shave right before Thanksgiving which is when we usually go on vacation.

About 7-10 days in it itches like the devil then it's great.
