Scott, Great E-bay display. I'm sure you'll move it soon. Wish I hadn't just bought my 1625. I would have bid.
I have the Rayco Superteeth on my machine. Works great but that's all I know. He threw in a second set as well, but I hear so much about the green teeth, I may invest some $ to try. Did you start with Superteeth?
Wanted to ask you about pricing. You can e-mail me if you prefer. Do you have a minimum price/go by the inch/or so much an hour? I feel like I'm being a bit too fair to my clients. All new to me. thanks

You have really got that machine looking and running good. I remember your posts about getting taken to the cleaners by the seller. Glad you made some money with it.
You really should think about keeping it for small jobs. I bought a big Bandit 2900 track machine, but kept my little 1625 for small jobs.
I use the 1625 on stumps up to about 30". Anything bigger, I take the Bandit.

I need the money for the down payment.

I am about to buy an Alpine Magnum grinder tho.

Ok guys, tell me what you think about this. This guy wants to buy my 1625. He's offering $6000 but wants me to bring it to him. I've worked out a deal on a Carlton 7015trx and this guy is on the way to where I'm going to get the Carlton .

What do I charge him to take it to him? Or should I even do the deal? What if he backs out when I get there? I'm screwed then as I wouldn't be able to bring the Carlton home if I still had the Rayco with me. How can I work out some kind of a non refundable deposit or payment in full before taking it to insure that he doesn't back out?

Let's hear what you're thinking.

My lord Scott..thats a beautifull machine..Obviously you take very good care of your equipment, something I find my customers take notice of when you do. I have a 97' 1625 S.Jr I just bought last year, and got repainted this year that I WISH would have been that nice when I bought mine..I got mine from a very reputable dealer in MI. but, thats a steal, I wish you all the best in selling it. Nice mod. there with the umbrella too..might outta write to Rayco and suggest it as an option..can't hurt. I'm using super teeth right now as well, but not for much longer, as soon as can I afford it..I'm gonna switch to to 700 series tap n turn green teeth.

Someone give me some insight quick cause this guy is wanting an answer first thing in the morning.

I have had quite a few dealings like this, as I buy and resell old trucks from time to time.
If they want me to deliver a truck, they must pay me a nonrefundable deposit. I set the deposit at a price where my trip expenses and time will be paid for, if they back out. Again, I let them know it is NONREFUNDABLE.
If I have a really bad feeling about the deal, I make them pay full price and delivery charges up front before I will deliver the truck.
This does not help you with space on the trailer. However, if they send you a sizeable deposit, you can be pretty sure they will complete the deal when you arrive. Also, I never unload until i have the balance of the money in my pocket, and, it must be cash or a cashiers check from a local/reputable bank.

Thanks.

I'm thinking of asking for half down (non refundable) and the rest (cash or cashier's check like you said) on delivery.

What's reasonable to charge to deliver it from Mississippi to North Carolina? Is $500 too little? It's about 700 miles.

The going rate was about $1.50/loaded mile for cars, farm tractors, and trucks. It is now more like $2.00/loaded mile. However, since you are making the trip anyway, I would just charge enough to help offset your fuel cost to his location, and maybe a little extra for a meal or two. I think I would cut him a pretty good deal and charge about $300 for the haul. That is less than
$.50/loaded mile. He gets a great deal and you get help on your fuel cost.
Jeff

I would require a deposit - Not half but enough to make it worth your while. With the internet and the photos you've posted, and the way your ad is honest - he should be able to commit.

Believe me, I've had plenty of committments on Ebay where they never come through. To me if the trade in value isn't that much lower, trade it and don't deal with people - they'll be calling you years to come , not worth the hassel!!!

Well, I just talked to him and he's not willing to leave me a non refundable deposit before I leave to bring it to him so I guess the deal is a no go. He just wants me to take his word that he IS going to buy it when I get there.

Have him at least agree up front to pay $500 for delivery. If he won't, then forget it - you'll sell that for $6k or more if you're patient.

Haul the rayco in your pickup bed, not on the trailer so, if he decides not to buy, you have a way to get both machines home (have a loan for the down payment for the carlton set up just in case).

If he decides not to buy your machine, you will sell it for that amount or more eventually. The temporary loan for teh down payment of your carlton will be just that - temporary.

Regarding the ebay ad - I'd highly advise removing the negative comments about Harv and the condition of the machine when you bought it. Remember, he treated me the same when I bought a chipper from him but, the comments in your ad don't help the situation - they make the machine sound like a piece of junk that you want to unload on someone else. It's good to mention all the work you did to it - just get rid of the negativity.

I planned on taking my Durango instead of my 9 mpg F-250 so I can't put it in the back and even if I did, what would I do with the trailer for the Rayco?

I now don't need to sell the Rayco to get the Carlton. I got 100% financed at my local credit union. And it's on a different Carlton so I can't do the trade deal either. This one is coming from an individual.

I figure the trip is going to be about $800 in fuel for the round trip and two night's stay in a hotel. If I make the trip and he doesn't take it, I'm out about $900 and have to make the trip again. I told him that I would do it with a $2000 non refundable deposit but he wouldn't go for that. He wanted me to take his word that he would buy it but wouldn't trust me to bring it to him.

1) sell the trailer to me. I have a vermeer sc252 and would like a trailer. :)

2) Ebay will almost suredly get you the lowest price for your grinder. Good for a buyer but bad for a seller in my opinion. Try regional equipment sales magazines or newspapers - I've had great luck with a local farm country trader that carries everything related to ag industry equipment.

3) If he won't pay up front for the travel expense, forget it - especially if you're not going that way anymore. I'd consider meeting half way for free if the selling price was right. If he's willing to spend the time and cost of meeting you half way, you know he's serious.

Better yet, try telling him you'll sell the machine for $5700 and give a $300 fuel allowance FOB your location rather than the full $6k and you spending a day on the road delivering it half way...

There is a Rayco trailer on Ebay - looked reasonable.

No way would I even think of delivering something with no non-refundable deposit!!! Why doesn't he come to you and get it??? (Cuz he is not committed!)

I'd leave the comments about Harv - makes you look more honest - plus everyone has seen them by now, and you have fixed everything.

Guess I did pretty good. High bid was $7201. He is coming Saturday morning to get it with cashiers check in hand. I hope that all goes well.

The next morning, I'm driving out to go get my 2006 Carlton SP7015trx. I can hardly wait. Worse than waiting for ANY Christmas as a kid.

Big thanks to sawyerDave for taking a look at it!
