Looks like it's going to be time to fire up the processor again to see what this load nets. Any guesses on how many cord is in this pile?

Hard to tell the size from the pics but I'd guess 6-7 cords. The logs are ~8 feet long? Did they dump it or what the loader operator really that bad?

looks like my pile after dumping it off the back of a 1 ton @ 2 cds to a load.... 5 to 6 cords loose at best! must have been an import semi hey, kinda small load! lol1st pic of the birch is a 12 cord load for 1150.00, 2nd load is 20 cords of big huiks of red oak for 2300.00... full semi loads.IMG_6436.JPG IMG_6582.JPG

Is that a full semi load? Looks small to me. A normal tri-axle log truck holds 6 cord, I'd expect more than 6 cord on a semi trailer... never bought one but guessing upward of 10-12 cord on a full semi... am I off base?

What did that semi load cost ya?

I just got quoted $1K for a tri-axle truck + pup trailer.

This was a tri axle plus a very small pup. Everything was loaded to the top of the uprights, but it seems a bit small to me as well.
I am just going to have to process it and see where it comes out to, but going into it, I think the load is a bit light to what I normally get

A semi load in 100" lengths for us is 10-12 cords usually. Order 10 and get 11-12...depending on what it is and how close they are to the house at the time.

This was a delivery last late winter of Black Ash.

Ten cord semi load.....

Seems like alot more work to make and handle 8ft lengths vs tree length?
8' lengths aren't too bad, especially if they are all fairly close to that. I buck five rounds from each length and then split them down from there. Knock one round off of each end and then three in the center. If it's actually a bit longer than 8', go to six rounds. I usually mark it first with shallow nip cuts.

Piece of cake.

I was talking about in the woods and on the truck. Have to handle 5 or 6 8fters to equal on tree length.

OK, but around here the loggers generally cut to 8' lengths. The bunk posts on the flat bed are set about 6' apart. Most of the logs go into pallet making and the sawmill likes the 8' to 9' lengths. Firewood logs are made from tops that the sawmill rejects.

Oh, and by the way, if a logger cuts to just barely under 8' lengths, the sawmill burns his butt. BTDT.
