Just found out today that I'm going to be taking down a few box elder, My best friend, his brother, and I built tree forts in as kids. They may only be box elder but we had alot of good memories in those trees, It was hard to see the old barn go (another fort).

This may be the hardest take down yet...My best friend died at the age of 10 from cancer.

Anybody been in this situation before?

I have two trees in my yard that are getting pretty rough, one is a wolf river apple and the other is a pear tree. They both have been on the way out for some time but they still produce fruit and I am not cutting them down until they are stone dead. Thay will be a sad day!

Those are the hardest ones to see go (if you have a heart). It doesnt matter what kind of tree it is if you have memories from when you were a kid. The only other time besides that is when I see someone cutting down a healthy oak for no reason besides not liking it.

take the wood, have it milled and build something in his memory, may be even a time capsule. if you are allowed to burry it at the site of the tree then burry the time capsule there.
