i read the thread about boots made in china etc...

but i want to get a bit more technical than where they are made.

i had a pair of caterpillars that put alot of strain on my knees.

i spent $155 on Red Wings, my knee problems went away, but,

in the winter the red wings felt like hockey pucks, i was sliding everywhere. its been a year or less, and they are letting in water, they use to be waterproof, the leather is getting shot, and the only thing they are doing for me now is providing good support for my knees and back.

so, what companies offer boots that handle our line of work, AND support us so we dont need a chirporactor? i can live with the fact of a pair of boots only lasting one season, but i would like to try a different brand since red wings dont have any tread on the bottom of their boots that also offer steel toe and waterproof design.

last, does anyone have insulated boots they wear year round? the lady at the boot store says some of the guys run 400 gram thinsulate boots IN THE SUMMER and think they are cooler than non insulated ????

help me pick my next pair.

thanks !

Nope. I don't even wear insulated boots in the winter. I put felt insoles into the rubber calks and always keep them in. We have a milder winter here though.

Back when I lived in Wisconsin, yah, I still only wore some thinsulite boots in the winter, you know. No calks as dey don't do so good on snowshoes. An da snow was so deep, we had to wear da snowshoes. An it was uphill both ways.....But only insulated boots in da winter. I hated the summer, too hot for this native of here.

Unless the insulation is removeable I'd avoid em. Even a Peet dryer won't dry insulated boots overnight. Doncha know?

Mine will. It dries out my ski boots, and my insulated boots that I wore in Wisconsin overnight. At work I have a Norwegian boot drier thingy that works well. It is two metal shoe shaped things that you put inside the boots and plug in. It works as well as the Peet. But it won't do gloves.

i picked up a pair of haix fire flash extreme. chainsaw resistant, steel toe, metatarsal guard, nomex shoestrings, electrical charge resistant...waterproof..... zippered. made in germany

i dont have a lot of feeling in my feet, as in hot or cold or wet, from the marines.... but i can tell when they hurt if boots dont fit. besides the redwings, ive never been able to stand steeltoe boots.

im accident prone and i got these in wednesday and so far they feel awesome. been wearing them daily as a work boot.

i know i have not had them long, but they are comfortable enough im able to tape my little toe and my toe next to it with tape, since i broke both tuesday morning (barefoot).... my foot is very bruised but im able to still work in the boots. i assume they will be as comfortable on my right foot as they are on the left, once the bruising and swelling goes down.

$1150 for a pair of boots is pretty unrealistic in most cases...

I wonder where you live? Mine were $109 here. Inflation? They say they have room for liners but, well, some of us have short ankles and wide calves and there is no room. I did consider cutting the tops off a bit. I don't like the color either but we can't be too choosy about that! They are sauna boots. Some of the guys wear some kind of booty in theirs which keeps their feet less sweaty wet.

i just went to the closest danner dealer, got the Danner "Tinner" GTX steel toe, water proof, non-insulated, brown 8" high

they feel awesome, have actual TREAD on the bottoms so when im pushing a wheel barrel up a muddy hill i wont be spinning my wheels

the red wings had NO traction on the bottom, even brand new! and the red wings had a couple points that rubbed into my feet when new and tight, that rubbed away skin. i dont feel any problems like that with these danners.

the heel of these danners will probably hold my climber spikes better also.

well, $179.00 later, if they hold up for a year ill be happy.

I like my wesco's. got two pair. Neither are insulated...don't need it here, but you can get them insulated. Not sure about water proof. Mine keep water out for a while, but in drenched situations the leather gets wet...your feet get wet. Custom fit fit like a dream.

Bamas, made by the same company as Extra-Tuf boots

+1 for Wesco, I can't afford them, but I have worked with lots of guys that say their the best corks on the market.
