It's stacked that way to save on space. If I just tossed/rolled it off the trailer, it would take up to much space in my yard. Also I can get the splitter close to the stack and it's easy to get the top pieces on the splitter.

What size truck do you pull your trailers with?

I'll have to leave the saws till Saturday. I have a spare fuel line for the 044, and I think there's something wrong with the fuel tank venting on the 970. If I can't figure it out, I'll be posting for help.

I get to hide my messy looking pile behind the barn. My wife used to complain how it looks but now she likes to see that big pile of wood because it helps to keep the gas bill very low. She also likes the warm heat in the winter.

I pull my trailer with a 1/2 ton '03 Chevy 4x4. It's got a small 4.8 V8 but it pulls pretty good considering its size. The low range on the 4x4 comes in handy if I have to back up on an incline when I'm loaded. It's probably helping to save my transmission. It might be a different story if I get some racks on the 16' trailer and have the bed of the truck loaded.

I've got an '02 Chevy 2500hd, duramax with a 6 speed manual, it's a short bed unfortunately. I wanted a long bed but got too good a deal to pass this truck up. I pull a 16' utility trailer with it. Between the pickup and trailer I can haul a little over 2 cords at a time. With that much weight I wouldn't want any less pickup than I have.

Sounds like you have a nice firewood hauling setup. I'd love to sell my pickup (97' Ford F150, 4.6L, V8, 4 spd auto, 4x4, short box, supercab, XLT, 142000 miles) and take the cash and buy an older 3/4 or 1 ton, 4x4, extended cab of whatever make. But I'm sure I would have to put more money on top of what I would get for my truck to get what I would really be happy with. And right now that wouldn't work. So I'll have to live with what I got for now.

What is your 16' trailer actually rated for? I've learned that just because a trailer might have 2 - 3500 lb. axles doesn't mean that the GVWR is 7000 lbs. A lot has to do with the frame materials.

The trailer does have a GVWR of 7000lbs. It's a pretty heavy duty trailer. I hear you on the pickup. I lucked out on mine, a friend sold it to me for the low trade-in value when he went to buy a new one.

The winters here are my favorite time of the year. I've said it before...it can never get to cold here. Now back home (Edmonton, AB in Canada), is a totally different story.

LOL, The winters here in arkansas must feel like summer in canada. We used to have colder winters here when i was a young pup. Now it rarely will snow.

A cold winter day here feels like a late fall day in Edmonton...cold enough to put on a jacket...for me it feels great. I have also heard folks around here talk about colder winters with more snow years ago (and not so hot during the summers). When it snowed here this year (March 7), I was out taking pictures and having a grand time! But that only lasted for the day  .

Good for you on the trailer...I'm almost jealous :) . BigTex trailers has a 16' utility trailer, 7000# GVWR that I would like to have. Even though I couldn't load it fully, I'd have it for my next truck.

Thanks, I kinda lucked out on the trailer. It was sitting on a ranch where I cut firewood, and got a little singed in a fire last summer. The owner didn't want to mess with it so sold it to me for $200  . New tires, repacked the bearings, the lights actually still worked but I replaced them and rewired it anyway.

it was hot as blazes here today.

luckily everything operated up to par.no problems.got some nice locust, apple, and cherry.getting oak tomorrow and more locust friday.

The last 5 days of my trip back home this year (I think it started April 18), Edmonton got dumped on with a freak snow storm. It was like it was in the middle of winter complete with terrible road conditions, cold and lots of snow...in April :dizzy: ! It didn't bother me a bit. My mind seemed to go into "snow mode" like it used to be when I lived in Edmonton. I had my winter gear with me and the family, so we bundled up and went about our last few days visiting. Driving was my main concern because this was the first time I had been winter driving in a long time and now I had my wife and baby with me. But I just went into the "winter driving" mode, asked God to watch over us, slowed down, braked early, manual ABS braked, did slow brake tests to "feel" the road, and went on. I was surprised how everything came back to memory and how it didn't bother me. I guess I'll always be Canadian :) .

About the hardwood and no real winter...I have some buddies back home who have wood stoves and say the same thing...bring some up for them.

That's not right, jail is the place for you for stealing...just kidding :) ! Good deal! I'm keeping my eyes open locally for a good deal...maybe like you got...:) .

It can vary KMB I have been snowed in until I fired up the 4+4
we had a 13 inch snow several years back and it stayed on the ground two weeks. It is not the norm but you will see a good one everynowandthen.
Ice storm 2000 was a cold year as well but not as cold as trimming the power out on shoreline drive in Mi was! I assume that is closer to Canada temps 50 below tooooo fuuuuuu:censored: cooooolllld:laugh:

I do miss the snow (I love downhill skiing and riding sleds when I can)...but I don't miss the things that comes with it . I know...hard to please...:) .

Nice haul!...I try not to cut wood during summer, but logging is going on across the road from me, and if the landowner gives me permission to get the "scraps", then I'll need to get on it quick...break in the new/used 036 I just got last week.
