My stump grinder guy is to busy to grind some stumps of trees I have taken down. Don't want to leave my customers hanging so thought about renting. I have a 42" maple, 40" pin oak and 2 30" willow. Can I do them in 8 hours with that machine? In the market for a grinder but want a pull type around 70hp but have read many posts on how much you guys like the compacts so this would me a chance to try one but want to make.sure I can do it in 1 day.

ya it will do it if you got the time. ive used a 252 alot. if your grinding larger stumps alot tho your probably gonna end up wanting more machine. i wouldnt mind having one to use when i dont need my larger machine. the ones i have rented if your cleaning up the grindings wouldnt do all that in eight hours. ive never used a new one tho with new teeth. but the ones i have used no way.

If the 252 is in running condition, you should be fine LOL.

once apon a time I did a 35-40 stump job that had about 15 in the 36" range most were oak a couple hickory and a walnut I did those 15 the first day with a 252 I beat the hell outa the machine and ran it for 8 hours straight but it did it, had fresh teeth and did ok considerining its 25hp I also had to grind to the machine's depth capacity because the lot was being re graded/landscaped so they wanted as much room as possible to play with so if you only have to go to 8" or so it will be no sweat

If the teeth are sharp and mach. in good cond. no problem.Of course if you rock them your day will go from slightly boring to TOTAL P.I.T.A.

Those little fellers MUST HAVE sharp teeth, period

Yeah, rent it, should be fine in 8 hours, if you have experience. I've cut with the 27 hp 252 with yellowjackets and it was pretty good. If it's your first time stumpin, then better start early.
Today with my 252 did three 48" and one 36" doug firs, 24" maple, and two 14" oaks in six hours on three different holes of a wet golf course. So was quite a bit of time moving the truck down the cart paths, had to "commute" with the machine a couple times from a little ways away. Course, the 35 hp engine and modified ground speed helps too.

Have fun!

I remember using a 252 a bunch of years ago to do a sugar maple stump about the size you have. Took me half a day, but I was only able to get to it from 1 side. Surely not something I'd want to do again. Make sure you have plenty of clean-up equipment with you, that size machine is going to require a lot of repositioning and clean-out to facilitate a thorough job.

it'll do it but if the rental place happens to have the vermeer track grinder you'll be much happier. I've used lots of 252's and have a rayco 1625 (same thing). sharp teeth is a must because they don't have much horsepower. if I have multiple big stumps I can't get to with my big machine I'll usually rent the vermeer tx50 (think that's what model it is) and price the stumps a little higher. saves HOURS of standing there beating on the little machine

If they are cut low already i would say 3 hrs without the raking.

Should be no problem, if teeth are sharp, i do stumps that size all
the time with my 252 with yellowjacket teeth,,,,also as someone i
think mentioned, cut them as low as possible, very important..

Called today and have it reserved for monday. Is a 2011 and has greenteeth so I guess it will be as good as that machine could be.

NOT IF THE TEETH ARE DULL! Head our warning and make sure they are serviced prior to pick up!!!!!!!!!!

Took me an hour each on 2 willows, an hour on a 30" oak and 2 1/2 on that 40"+ oak. Not bad but I don't think I would buy one. I do to many 30" and up so I think I would benefit more with a higher HP pull type. Overall not a bad machine though

Probablyl good advice, but i have 5 large oaks to do tomorrow one has roots out
about 10 ft all the way around, i guarantee u i will do that one last, that way when its
done i'm done, in more ways than one LOL...

Grind all the way around the out side of the stump as low as you want to go then take your big saw and cut the chunk out of the middle then just grind the center down. I run a 252 and on big stumps taking a big block out of the middle will save lots of grinding. Good luck.
