should i rent a.vermeer 252 on a 40" oak?

Grind all the way around the out side of the stump as low as you want to go then take your big saw and cut the chunk out of the middle then just grind the center down. I run a 252 and on big stumps taking a big block out of the middle will save lots of grinding. Good luck.

That would be a real time saver. Will do that if I run that machine again, thanks
 
NOT IF THE TEETH ARE DULL! Head our warning and make sure they are serviced prior to pick up!!!!!!!!!!

yup
willow is going to grind the hardest, oak will be easiest
sharp teeth and 8 hours is plenty time, you should be done long before then
if you have to take the duals off for a gate beware, that machine is very tippy without them
bigger stumps move the chip as you go, dont grind the chip, just the stump
