I save the standing dead Aspen and Lodge Pole Pine I remove and make rustic log furnature out of it. I have found some funky pieces of Cottonwood that I dead wooded and used them to make lamps or coffee cup holders. I want to get an Alaska mill here this winter so I can cut some cool slabs and make log table tops. My Ideal winter project it to make a billiards table using lodge pole pine.

if you consider it side work from trees, (still in horitculture though)
i will do some landscape work on the side and have done a tiny bit of ls design which i would like to do more of.
outside of that though i am a trained carpenter and will do that on the side when work presents itself and i have the interst.
it is nice to get a little break and do something different every now and again.

Demo sounds fun, I like blowing stuff up. I havent been able to talk any of my customers into removing stumps with Amonium Nitrate explosives yet.:(

My business has two divisions

the Tree Division includes
Tree Service
Sawmill

the Wildlife Division includes
Hunting and Fishing Guide
Nuisance Wildlife Pest Control
Wildlife and Habitat Management

I cut year round, only less so during waterfowl, spring turkey and trapping seasons

I used to do a lot of trapping with my uncle when I was a kid, but the bunny huggin libereals have gotten the regulations so messed up here in colorado. No more leg holds and no more conibares. Only snares and live traps now, and you cant trap in an area for more than 30 days. My uncle still does a little pest control trapping for the ranchers, but the old days are gone. Whats the fur market lookin like this year?

I do lots of side jobs - on the West Side, East Side, some on the South Side, but mostly on the North Side.

Full time tree trimmer for the city and part time tree service for myself, who has time for another side job?:)

I build custom vacuum tube guitar amps for pro musicians and doctors and lawyers $$$$$. Used to do a lot of amp repair work but have little time for that now. Its a good match for tree work as I can do this during the winter months rather than frezing my hiney off in january. And yes Autocad is a PITA

Neat work, Glenn. All it needs now is a couple of BIG Svetlana finals... and a pair of earplugs.

outonalimb, below is a link to the PTA Districts page
from there you can see the prices for the fur auctions
click on each district

prices are not like the late 70's and early 80's
but better than the 90's

I cut down to one or two tree jobs a week from mid-October when the waterfowl guiding starts until March when beaver trapping closes
