here's the user manual for Silvey 300, 510 and Pond & Deck

all three Silvey grinders use the same design and adjust the same.
510 has a larger diameter grinding disc than 300. controls are the same
pond and deck has thicker grinding wheels with larger chain carrier to fit larger 3/4in harvester chains.

Silvey 300 (discontinued) uses the same size grinding wheel as Oregon 511A.

Thanks - helpful information.

On Page 2 it says that the 10 degree 'down' angle is built in - not adjustable. That this angle is preferred for chisel cutters and does not cause a problem with 'chipper' chain. they are probably right, but iI was curious.

a more accurate statement is 10 degree down angle is adjusted once during setup.
but yes down angle is adjustable to what ever you want. but I've never touched mine.
Silvey definitely don't want you adjusting this after dealer setup.

picture above of Silvey 300 base with serial number shows pivot that controls down angle.
there are no stops, with a bare minimum of alignment marks.

most anyone on AS would be very happy with Silvey 300 or 511A.
for heavy production work Silvey 510 would have an edge due to larger diameter wheel.

511a and the NT is good enough for me

I guess if I tried the Silvey I'd want one, but I probably grind 50 chains a season. I did splurge and get a CBN wheel for my 3/8 stuff. Wow. Much faster, especially if you've hit some dirt, and no more need to dress the wheels. I'm going to order another one for .325 chain. I'll keep the 1/4" wheel set up on the NT for rakers though.

CBN wheels are not available for square grinds. so ended ordering two wheels from Silvey.
very pleased with performance. put off ordering CBN for round grind.
