We just had a couple people from our dealership go to a Stihl meeting with our distributor monday and word is the 460, 660, and 880 are all being replaced, most likely next year. They confirmed a 461 coming next year, to be a big brother of sorts to the 441, but didn't say what the 660 and 880 replacements were.

In that respect ALL Stihl saws will be stratified engines by the end of 2009. This is for emissions compliance.

Sure wish they could figure out how to do it without the extra weight. That 1.1 lb is quite an increase on the 441 and puts it .2 lbs heavier than a 460 for .5 less HP. Not improvement if you ask me.

Hopefully it is the same as the 441, just with a larger bore........

I hope it’s not. But don't know why it wouldn't be the 460 is basically a big bore 440 I'm sure the 461 will follow suit.

I hope they go back to the engineering room for the 261, 461, 661 and make a better saw than it's predecessor without the added weight, but I know what will happen they have a design that works and they will not look farther than that. They will just adapt the pieces to the different bore and stroke combinations and rest on their laurels until forced to do something different again. :bang:

I believe you are right, they won't get lighter again for a while.:bang: :bang: :pumpkin2:
