If we are only talking about 5 gallons, I would drain / pump it out. Don't run it and get water in the fuel lines. It's a pain bleeding lines. I'd get that fuel filter after you removed the bad fuel.

what others have said Dave. some type of additive for diesel fuel and a new filter if you have never changed it. i'm lucky on my new holland that i can change the filter and don't have to bleed the lines like my international. good luck.

Don't change the filter until it's had a chance to catch this water. Run a whole tank through.

Honestly, I run a 30 hp diesel tractor and unless you're working it at pto speeds it takes a long time to use a tank. I wouldn't change the filter unless it was about time anyways.

I would run it through, change your filter or at least dump out the water in spring. Your filter bowl will catch it.

It all depends on where the fuel is drawn out of the tank. Unless it is gravity feed, chances are the filters will never see that water. Look for a drain on the bottom of the tank, if it has one carefully remove the plug or open the valve. The water will be on the bottom and the fuel will float above it. Only drain the water. Replace the plug. You are good to go. Many manufacturers recommend doing this on an interval basis. As said before 1 once will never make it to the injector pump.

I had a employee fill the hydraulic tank full with diesel, about 50gal in a 200 gal hydraulic tank. Didnt tell anybody his mistake until the machine ran out of fuel. Chit happens.

My dad in law would dump some diesel in his hydraulic system on his loader tractor in the winter when it got really cold and he was a little low.

I would take a siphon hose and stick it in the lowest point of the tank. Siphon about a gallon of fuel out into a clear plastic jug. Of course do this after it has sat overnight to let the water settle. Dump the filter housing several times in the next little while then replace the filter after you have ran a tank or so through the tractor.

Whats wrong with gasoline in a diesel, mine likes it as long as your not running only gas, and mix in some oil or diesel

a small amount of gasoline mixed with diesel fuel will help prevent gelling in an older IDI diesel engine....newer engines not a good idea.

shopping

the best....
I keep a measuring cup in my shop, I add 4oz to every 5 gal can of diesel she has never missed a beat since 1995 .All of our fleet trucks have it available to them as well.

The problem is that particular tractor only has a 10.7 gallon capacity fuel tank. I don't think it would run very long with 5 gallons of gasoline in the tank, even if the tank already had 5 gallons of diesel in it.......
