Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes a small branch chipper that can be mounted inside the bed of a pickup truck? I'm thinking it would be cool to have something with like a 25hp diesel that would take 3 or 4 inch branches, maybe like a top-down feed system (i.e., gravity feed, no rollers) and would fill the bed of the pickup with the chips.

grrrrrrr those DR chippers are on craigs list constantly. But for the price your gonna pay for one used can get a chuck and duck or for a little more a used bandit or vermeer 6" but then you would be stuck with a tow behind. Another interesting idea would be a larger chipper mounted on a dump trailer with an extended frame. I have seen a few of them it looks like a cool idea.

I've got one of their PTO units with manual feed. It actually eats the 4 inch and under stuff pretty well. They offer the same unit with a commercial Honda engine. Very easy to set and maintain the chipper knives. One of the other features I like is the lifting eye. Makes it very easy to put in and take out of the truck using the tractor bucket.

It is in no way a full blown commercial unit but it's definitely more than a homeowner type machine. The dealer where I bought mine has sold a bunch to golf courses in the local area. They actually made some calls so I could see one in operation before I bought it.

I'm in a bind because I can't park a chipper in my driveway when I'm not using it, based on town regulations, so I either get a tow-behind chipper and then find a place where I can rent space to park it or I don't chip branches. There aren't too many clients that want to keep the brush!

dude start looking around you will find someone that will let you park it for next to nothing or for nothing. Find a place that looks safe and offer trade services for parking. Chipper doesnt take up much room and most everyone has brush they need chipped a few times a year.

I agree. By asking people I've found enough places to dump chips/wood I almost never have to pay to dump. I know its different topic but still wouldn't have the majority of them if I never asked.

i say get a tow behind and ask around for a place to park it (securely).

I used to have a similar setup...guy let me dump all my chips and park the rig for free. He wanted all the chips he could get to help build up his daughters play area and his walking trail through his woods.
