Has anyone tried this new saddle from New Tribe?I saw a ad for it in Sherill's newest catalog. It looks comfortable and light weight but I would prefer the larger D-rings.Do you keep the delta link attached when putting the saddle on and off? Any opinions would be helpful.

G.I. , I 've been watching your post. Apparrently none of the regulars have tried the Smokejumper. Oxman climbs on a Ness Work Saddle and can probably answer your question about the Delta link. I believe that you can leave it in place and step in and out of the saddle only cinching the waist belt but I don't KNOW. I will be trying out a Ness saddle in a few days. I'll let you know what I learn.:)

Thanks Stumper I'ii be interested to hear how you like it. The attachment loops on the leg straps seems like a good location for a handsaw. The Ness Work Saddle on the New Tribe web page did not have them.I was wondering if this is a saddle was made strictly for Sherrill distribution.I guess I need to get out to the nearest Vermeer/Sherrill dealer to check it out.

I have a ness work saddle and love it. It was the most comfy saddle id ever worn before I bought my b'fly. I still on occasion will use but not much. The delta link stays on and does not need to be removed at all, the drings are a little small, but all for all it is a great saddle. I dont know about the smokejumper, but the other saddles are all custom made to your dimesions and preferences. I like the look of the smokejumper but doubt id use it enough to warrant its purchase
What I like the most about is how lightweight it is (2.5 lbs.)
anything else?

A really simple way to get answers about New Tribe's gear is to write to them directly. They have always been good about getting me information.

The story that I heard is that the saddle was originally designed for the Forest Service Smoke Jumpers, hence...the name :)

I climb on a Ness and love it. The delta does not have to be removed to put it on. I like those loops, looks like an easy modification.

I am very happy with my Ness work saddle. If you want bigger D rings they are an option that can be specified when you order. I have them on mine and they do the trick. Another option that is better than the base model is to replace the brass boat snaps with gear loops. Those snaps catch on small limbs something fierce!! Great company to work with, too.

G.I., I got my new Ness and love it. I posted a new thread about it but thought that I would mention that in my case I do have to remove one side of the waist belt from the delta link to put the saddle on or take it off. This may be due to the fact that I am almost too big for the Large size saddle. Even though it is a little slower to put on than my old saddle, I love it. The most comfortable saddle I've ever worn. FWIW the small D's are working fine.
