After being on the site, and lurking a while before joining, I started to collect parts saws from differant dealers and ebay and a few from here. How many is too many?

I currently have: (not counting the running saws in my sig)
2 Husky 55's (1 running, other needs assembled)
2 husky 365's (one needs a piston, other one needs crank bearings)
1 Stihl Ms290 (needs a piston)
1 Dolmar 111 (needs assembled)
1 husky 345 converted to a 350. (needs a base gasket)
2 husky 50's

Those are ones that will run, and these are ones that were purchased to make those run:

jonsered 2150 (parts to make 345 a 350)
Husky 51
husky 50

Am I nuts? I think so. Anyone else get more than one as a project saw? This really started out as one, and has escaladed to what is now. I bought most of them in pairs. Meaning, I bought two 55's to make one good one. Then found a way to repair scored cylinders. So at most I am out a piston and a couple gaskets. I haven't tackled the 365's yet, but bought a box of parts from a rental company that used to rent 365's. There are at least enough parts to have spares after assembling two of them, minus pistons, but I have a source for cheap 365 pistons, and I have the two pistons and jugs from the two of mine that I upgraded....

Any ways, whatcha got, and how did you aquire them?

Nothing wrong with having a little collection of saws I say. Sounds like your off to a fast start of what will become a big collection. I myself have been lucky. I have a 064 Stihl that was brought to me with a scored cylinder. When I told the guy the price of the parts he said heck it with that and gave it to me. I get alittle discount on parts and for 140.00 bucks I have a 064 that is in great shape. I got 2-024's Stihl's given to me due to parts costs, 2-MS290's Stihl's handed over because the parts were too high at regular price. I got a 056Mag Stihl that was given to me , it needed a bar stud put in, the guy just got tired of the weight. Runs great though it looks ruff. I got a Husky 55 that was given to me , has a scored cylinder that I have yet to replace. I have a 066 Mag that was handed over to me that is so worn out even I won't bother with it. I got a old 015 Stihl that looks like brand new that I'm storing for a man that has probly forgotten about it by now. I bought a 046Mag, a 036Pro, 026 and a MS 200T. I've also got other saws, quite a few that I've given away to friends after they buy just the parts, I fix them for free, friends only mind ya. All my saws run great cept for that Husky and 066 that I've yet to tinker with and probly never will. The 066 is so worn out its beyond repair and the Husky is the odd ball in my line up of Stihl's so I'm in no hurry to repair it thought it seems like a real nice saw. Its like new cept for the scored cylinder. All the other freebies were re-done and run fine. So my friend I say it's ok to collect saws just like your doing...

Thall, wanna off that 55? I have figured those out....I even have an extra cyl and piston laying here for the next one.....

Nope I won't sell that 55 to ya but I'll give it to ya. I don't sell saws that I have no money in. That 55 is like brand new cept for the cylinder. It would be a great saw to re-do since everything else about it is like new. If ya want it your welcome to it at no cost since I don't have one penny in it. I'll have to send it to ya and to do that I'll have to ship it UPS. Can I trust ya to pay for the shipping??? I'm in Virginia by the way so you have to decide if its worth the cost of shipping it to ya, if it is its yours...............

Nice move.... Thall10326! :)

Heck Lake I figure if he's gonna do something with it and since I don't have a a cent in it why not. Besides its sitting out there in the shed among all those Stihl's and they mights attack that thing one nite and tear up my whole shed, haha. Naaaaaaa that Husky is in real good condition but I doult I'll ever do anything with it so if Steve wants to re-do the ole boy he's welcome to it...

Yeh, I did something similar for a Guy on AS late last year - fixed 025 for the cost of the parts and freight. I find you get what you give, and if you never give anything, well... heck, my neighbors not only buy me fine booze, they bring over food and lately, clothes (no, I'm not starving, thirsty (I lie) or dressed in rags :) )

Couldn't agree with ya more. Seems when ya give alittle you tend to get alittle back. Today for instance I rebuilt a MS290 that was given to me over a year ago, burnt cylinder. It sat out in the shed for a year and the other day a guy brought me a box with a MS290 in it in a zillion pieces. He had a spun crank bearing and decided to say heck with it. This morning I went out in the shed and grabbed that one of mine and to the shop I went. I switched out the cylinders and by 9.30am that saw was purring. So in all I got a MS290 with not one red penny in it so least I can do is return the favor to someone else. I'm not a big fan of homeowner Stihl's but for free yep they can sit on the same shelf with my pro's....

I still thank you Thomas! BTW, are you a dealer or just work at a shop? What does a new Ms-290 piston go for? I need one for the box of ms-290 parts I got and the local dealer is amish with no phone. I work and hour away from my hometown (close to the dealer) and it is hard to make it there during normal business hours. Just trying to figure out how much I'm gonna have in this one.

I do a little work in the shop for the neighboring cutters, mainly because they have to wait a month or two to get their saws out of the repair shop around here. I realize the in town guys have to make a living, but some of these guys have got to be cutting, especially this time of year. I let them buy the parts and sit around and chew the fat in a warm shop with coffee of course.

I work at a two man dealership in which I'm da Stihl man and my buddy that works with me is in training. Our dealership is part of a huge lumber yard and hardware store. Me and my buddy handle everything with the name Stihl on it. Just so ya know Stihl parts are costly compared to aftermarket brand but I think most would agree Stihl quality makes the price worth the extra cost.
I sent ya the part numbers and price, I hope you was sitting down, lol

A month or two? Most of our repairs are turned around couple of days, maybe in 5 if we need to order a bunch of parts... Even major rebuilds...

I don't get it either and independent, I guess these guys don't need the money. I used to operate a small engine service 26 years ago and we would fix a customers machine on their trailer or the tailgate of their pickup more than once, insurance was good as long as they were setting on the shop property.

OK, this is a bit fuh-reeky. How many Amish dealers are there in central Ohio? At least two, I guess, as mine DOES have a phone. Mine is near Belle Center, yours?
