OK, this is a bit fuh-reeky. How many Amish dealers are there in central Ohio? At least two, I guess, as mine DOES have a phone. Mine is near Belle Center, yours?

Both my dealers are amish or thereof. The Stihl Dealer is in Applecreek (wayne county) and has no phone. My Husky dealer is menonite (sp?) and has a phone and is in Holme county out in the sticks (literally 3 loggin mills within 5-10 mile radius, again all amish). The local Jonsered dealer in Orrville isn't amish, but hires amish workers for the parts and sales departments!

Add a Jonsered cs2186 to the list......Got it at the husky dealer tonight picking up some parts to get the 365's back together.

I bought an after market jug/piston kit for an 029 on ebay for about $80 including shipping from a guy in Canada. Do an eBay search, he is selling jug kits all the time. I've bought four of them for 026,029 and two for 036 and no problems.

I bought the piston and cylinder kit for the ms-290, probably from the same guy. I think it was about 82 bucks after shipping. We'll see how it works out, and if all is well, I will give that one to my father. (maybe he'll quit borrowing mine)

Special thanks to Tom. He stuck to his word and sent out the saw. I Pm'd him to get how much I owed him, and he said don't worry about it. I feel like I should have had to at least cover the shipping. So, Thanks again tom. This will become my test mule for my ported cylinders. If I run into any more project sthils, I'll gladly return the favor.

Yeah no kidding, I have parts for a 51/55 looking for that exact setup, not that I neeeed another saw. Good on ya tom, I'm happy to see people helping people out, I guess I have reached a similar epiphony in my own personal philosophy. We are all just people trying to get through life, Why not make it the best you can for your fellow man. F-stang don't hold back any info you come up with while porting I know after I tweaked my 358 It's kind of addicting. PM me if you would like access to some porting information I have located.
Lakeside I remember your more than generous offer on that 025 and I believe it will always come back to you its like helping someone that is broke down on the highway.

Regards,
Buck

Well...it was my 025 that Andy fixed, and did a fine job on. I hope it does come back to him in a good way, I have a lot of respecta nd appreciation for him. Project saws here...my old Homie XL needs some fuel system work...but I'm just too lazy to tackle it. My 009 needs a new trigger assy and my Mac 3200 needs to be sent to teh glue factory. When I have money again in teh summer I'll be looking for a project 038 Mag or 044...gotta have something to throw a 32" bar at...why I don't know.

Well the list has changed a little...

I added more, But I don't think any came off of the list. lol

Let's see if i can remember all these now..

2-55's one needs a piston, one is together and runs, but needs carb work
51 needs a piston
345/350 needs assembled
2-371's Needs assembled and plastic
1-365 needs assembled and some misc parts
Stihl 034 needs piston & cylinder
Stihl 046 Actually got this one fixed! lol
Makita 6401 Needs crank bearings

I got Tom's 55 Running. It is a good running saw. I tried a cylinder or two on it that i played with porting. I have the stock jug on it right now. I gave it to my father, but he ended up with a 365. This is my loaner saw. Pics of it can be seen in the muffler mod threads with the dual pipes on it. i will do more threads on it this winter when i have time to play with porting it.

I had an 044 that needed work. I rebuilt that and had it running good. took it to the woodlot down at my buddies farm. The saw got stolen that first weekend. He felt bad because I was helping him clean up some trees, so he gave me an old wore out 046. That is the one on the list. I had to put a piston and rings in it, along with a new air filter, and clutch side cover, and both topcovers. It is a good running saw. might have to try a big bore kit on that one some day.

Sorry to go off topic for a second, but I have noticed several saws on Ebay that have been run with no oil and being sold as parts saws. What's the likelihood of the lower end being trash as well as the top end?

The reason I ask is I have contemplated buying up some project saws on Ebay but knowing my luck they'd be total losses instead of just needing a new piston or jug.

Flip a coin and there are your odds. I've seen some that were shut down in time and others that both the big and small end on the con rod were all blued. I guess I wouldn't plan on it but you also may get lucky. If the saw has other parts you may need or you have a good bottom end from something else, go for it.

Steve before long you will have worked on them so much you will give them away like thall .lol.keep us posted, nice to see people with the same interest.

Project saws!

I usualy check local dealers for used or junk saws, most either give them away or sell real cheap. I missed the boat on a local stihl dealer that a friend works at he said the needed room so the sent 3 dumpsters out to the garbage transfer station! Now I found an in at the transfer station to set all saws aside!
Most saws have minor problems that are easy fixes that labor and parts are not justifiable for most people.
Curent project are:

jonny 2094
husky 261
2 020 stihls
017 stihl
and next week a 290 stihl with straight gas
