I'm in Oz, a stock ms170 is ideally suited to cutting 4"-8" limb wood relatively happily, it'll cut 12" slowly.
A modded ms170 with a walbro 215 carb and muff mod will happily cut 12" hardwood but it won't set your pants on fire with excitement, really can't see how it is a sensible option for felling larger trees unless you know what you are doing and how to do it.
30"? Forget it, you need a quicker cutting saw, seriously, your video was almost a youtube fail unless you understood exactly what was going to happen and why.
Once a tree starts going wrong there's usually very little you can do about it, it's all physics

Here's the deal! You buy the cheapest, smallest saw Stihl makes, with the idea of cutting your 30+" trees. You say your dealer tried to "scam" you into buying a "bulky" $500 saw, and when you refuse, he seems "sarcastic" in his well wishing? You think there might be a reason for that?

So, when the dealer was trying to "scam" you with one of those "bulky" saws (and $500 doesn't even touch a NEW Stihl pro grade falling saw), did you ever ask, or even wonder, what or why those "bulky" saws exist?

So then you google around for starting help due to flooding and end up here, admittedly new to sawing. Sound about right so far?

With the appropriate powerhead AND appropiate skill level, your idea of 16" bar getting 30+" tree is okay. YOU LACK BOTH! You do NOT need a bigger saw!!! No, that won't help you because you don't know how to use it or what you're doing.

There is a reason those bulky saws come in engine sizes ranging from 50+, 60+, 70+, 90+ and 100+ cc ranges! You have a 33cc, tiny cutter tooth, flimsy bar branch and tiny tree cutting saw. There is a reason why, in my line of fire work, beginning sawers are limited to 12" trees and a LOT of ground work and bucking before being able to even think of intermediate level of falling (up to 24" generally, with NO defects or complexity). There are reasons for all of this.

And being new to saws and inexperienced is okay and nothing to be ashamed of because every member here was there in their beginning at one time or another. What is NOT okay is not recognizing your limitations OR your equipment's limitations.

That's all I got to say about that.

The best thing u can do is pick the smaller easier trees to practice on. Even little stuff can be dangerous. I had a small 1/4" branch snap back when i wasnt paying attention. Hit me right below the eye and got a nice cut. Any higher and it couldve been much worse. Get PPE and dont assume any tree or branch is safe. Do u have any family friends that are more experienced to help? I woukd keep using your saw on smaller stuff away from building, vehicles, anything important etc. Then look into a bigger saw. A farmboss/rancher would prob be good. Or an echo 590. Its better to take flak on this site and learn something than to get seriously injured or worse. Be safe

that tree is not going to fall the way you want with out pulling it. big open face, leave a thicker than normal hinge and then pull it the rest of the way down.
you need some basic fundamental instruction, i recommend Dent's book. just use the basic cuts, forget the fancy swing cuts as your no where near ready for those. the big thing here is that you have no clue how to read a tree, and thats not some thing we can tell you how to do on the internet.
