Some people can talk and still have a good awareness of what is going on with the work; some cannot. I have had the situation of a couple of workers being deep into a discussion and you cant break in with instructions or even get there attention without having to get right rude. Some people dont have the brains to know when their conversation is becoming part of the problem at hand. I like to have some fun on the job and have worked with people who are ALL in tune and aware and it would only take a facial expression from one to end the conversation and get instant focus. If everyone is fully competant it can work, but it has been the cause of lots of incidents.

I have logged and worked with guys and gals in different parts of the country. Almost always get along with everybody. It is a kick when everybody is experienced and production minded.
I was thinking the other day that the longest time that I have worked with the same crew or the same individuals was three years. Now for a little over six years it has been just Kate, Buck and myself in the woods. Dont know what that says about me, but I like it. I'm the boss and sometimes they laugh at my jokes. They usually dont talk much, just once and a while going off on rants about how I should get rid of my Stihls and get a Wild Thing, and how much more wood we would get out. And sometimes I sneak up on them and can hear them saying something about unions.:D

Whenever I work along side another independant, I stir things up by seeing if I can steal their employees, all pretend though.
I offer better wages and hrs., just to see what happens.
The best gig is to pretend you're pulling the guys employee aside and talk under your breath as though something is really up, or try to buddy up to them just to see how everyone deals with it.
