Over the past week or so, I have checked with two area Stihl dealers here in WC Wisconsin about the 441. One had no idea when they would be available so he picked up the phone and called his distributer right in front of me. He was told we could get them late Dec or first part of next year. Now, I'm reading that they are on store shelves on Thall & Lake's areas.

What gives with this??

Needless to say, I made a decent deal on a 440 with the promise of a decent trade-in price for a 441 if'n I choose to do so someday.

The anti-vibe is top notch, air filter is slick, it was close everytime we ran them but the 372 always was a little quicker. I am not brand loyal, I own all major mfg's. Just my observations and the owner of the shop who is a good friend of mine Husky/Stihl dealer. Both saws had 20" bars and stihl chain. Nothing timed or very formal.

Thanx for the non biased report Hired Gun. Hope that we can get more feed back on this new saw for a true evaluation.

The log was good sized, nasty pasture pine. The butt was probably 36-40". There were many limbs of various size, and enough that we could cut side by side on roughly the same diameter material.

Ben, the 372 was not leaving it in the dust by any means. The margin was enough that I didn't buy one (441). He offered me one for a very good price. I told him I would like to try the saw again after it has some time on it.

We have sold 10 of them in the last 2 weeks and have just recieved another 8 of them. Of the 8 we sold 4 so far. We have an order in for 15 of them...........we'll see when it arrives. They are on back order they say.

Two weeks ago My stihl dealer got 3 in. They were gone in less than 3 days. He said he hasn't gotten anymore in yet. he ordered 18, but says they didn't come in yet.

Now the other guy in town will not order one until he sells his last 440 at full list. I was in there today checking. He doesn't sell many big saws as he is in town. not too much of a demand...His big seller...the MS 290..

Ok.....

It appears to me, from the outside looking in, that the regional distributer sat on his arse too long and didn't get a request in for them soon enough. Sounds like the demand is very high in the areas where they are on the shelves and our area is on the waiting list until Stihl can get enough made to supply us??? :buttkick:

FWIW, our distributer is out of Hayward, WI and my dealer says they supply Wisconsin, Minnesota (for sure) and I think he may have said parts of Iowa & Illinois.

My guess is that the distributor up there, like the dealer Steve mentioned, has some other stuff that they want to sell through. However I don't understand this because like the 372/575 Huskys, there will still be people who prefer the 440.

I live near Racine Wisconsin and I've been to 2 local distributes and one didn't even know of the MS441, he asked me if I meant 440, I had to show him in HIS catalog...he had no idea when he'd have one. The other told me to come back sometime around Nov or Dec, he might have one then. But he knew of them. He told me that the local rep, or someone from Stihl who is in charge or product support in this area didn't do his job.

Thats what I heard.

Long live the 372!

Did you notice any difference in weight and balance with the 20" bars & chains on both saws?

By the way, here the 441 cost a lot less than the 372xp, 575xp and 460, which all cost about the same.....

To be honest with you the weight concentration that I felt on the 441 was directly under my hand on the handle bar (Where the P&C is). It went away once I started cutting. It tossed around great knocking limbs off. It was not nose heavy or tip heavy. The weight feels to be right in the center. The anti-vibe was really good. It was less buzzy than the 372. The 372 however was not a new chassis, only the motor was new. So the mounts may have had a little bit of slop in them. I would really like to try the 441 again after it has been broken in. I could have taken the one brand new 372 out of the box I have and ran it against it. Nah, not just yet! We cut for about 30 minutes. I popped the air box off of the 441. It only had a few very small slivers of wood fiber stuck to the pre-filter.

Ran the 441 on Saturday. It beat the 372s that were stock. It ran "better" than the new 460s. IMHO

Fred

BTW I could have left with the 441 for $30 more than the free 440 and you guys saw my choice. It's a racin thing.
