I doubt the 361 dome is "silver" all over. There is a very distinct pattern of silver and black on 361's. I'll take picture next time I have one down.

something like this?

btw trying to judge carb settings over a wide operating range by looking at a plug ran for hhours if like reading tea leaves or chicken bones. Your not getting a accurate picture.

Yeah, I remembered I had a new plug laying around...so thats what itll be from now on. Doesnt really pull that hard anyway.....The 660 is a different story.

Heres one Im sure you can relate on....Push the button on the 660, give her a few yanks and it pops just enough to push the button out and you think its going to go, but doesnt.....Yanks the handle right out of your hand...that hurts.

Pansy. My 066 is pre-comp...a "he-man" start every time. Bunch-a whiney girls around here, geez...:)

Really, that's what I'm saying... my 066 red light has more compression than stock and doesn't have a decomp....

This is how I were taught to do it on Dirtbikes due to there being no way to avoide idle when stopping normally.

Make the engine work under load at WOT for a period of time, the longer the better.

Hit the killswitch while simultainously disengaging the clutch. <<<<<< Take this to mean what you will when dealing with a saw.

Then read your plug. :chainsaw:

Plug color

Should those plugs be running that white really? OMG, I always thought they were supposed to be much darker than that. I thought a brownish to black color was how they were supposed to look with very little buildup. Do all the newer higher revving saws run light like this? Just interested...

I tell you boys, kick-backs on 090s are no fun at all. When I first got mine, the deco was stuck shut on it, and I didn't realize it. When I gave er a yank, it yanked right back only harder. My fingers wouldn't close very good for a while after that!

You need the electic start option on there..

..

Yeh, no kidding. I was actually dumb enough to do it twice before I decided something must be wrong. A couple light taps broke the valve free of whatever was sticking it. Starts better than any of my other saws now.

Both plugs look rich, especially the 660.
I have seen motors ran for thousands of miles overly rich and they have silver piston domes. All that extra fuel washes the carbon right off.

You are right about the 660. As I stated in the first post I run it rich for milling. I was surprised it wasnt fouled, it was just really wet with fuel. I wiped it off with a rag and looks about like new.

I too, thought that a white plug tip denoted a rather lean running condition, not a rich one. After pulling the 361 plug I gave the high side about 1/16 turn out and it still doesnt act like its running rich, if anything still a little on the lean side.

I still need to get a tach.

Since you guys brought up decomp valves...on my 361, sometimes I start it WITH the decomp valve pushed down, and sometimes WITHOUT. There doesn't seem to be much difference in how hard it is to pull, seems to me. I don't notice any difference.

My 361 is the only saw I have that I can't set the H side by
ear and get close on the rpm's. When I set by my ear it's only turning about 11,500. When I set by ear to here it 4-stroke, it's way to rich.
