Howdy All

Well after getting my Pioneer 650 running (not the best but that is another story) I want to know what kind of bar and chain I have on my saw.

Details are: Oregon - 2058B1931SB under that is 17826.

Can anyone elaborate on these numbers?

cheers
Scott

Bar spec's could be in line with the following :
Bar length / chain gauge / and if fitted with a sprocket nose there's a couple of different pitches to consider, thats about it no dramas.

oh my god no. the gauge isnt 5/8" its .058. there is a HUGE difference there. read around you'll learn an incredible amount about this. I'm betting its 3/8 pitch chain, since .404 hasnt been made in .058 gauge since the 80's I think, maybe the 70's.

I'm pretty sure all the older pioneers like that had .404 chain. I know my 620 did.

Specs say it should be .404. What does this refer to? Sorry this is my first chainsaw and it is all just numbers so far. Can't seem to get the mind to 'click', if you know what I mean.

cheers

.325 3/8 .404 All refer to a chain's pitch. It's easiest to think of it as the size of the drive link. .404 is larger than 3/8 and because of that the drive sprocket is only capible of working with one pitch, any other pitch won't line up right on the sprocket. Same holds true for sprocket noses on bars they are pitch specific.
